I looked her up and apparently she started in 1977. I stand by my statement, in the early days they didn't have any beauties. More like hags like Georgina Spelvin.

And another reference in the finale talking about the style of the new band playing like a mix between The Velvets and glam rock.

With such great credentials behind it (David Simon, George Pelecanos) and serious cast (James Franco, though I don't need the double, Maggie G, and a host of others), I found the show to drag. Yes, there are some predictable lines to the story (which I don't mind, like Maggie G's character's transformation) but I don't seem to remember The Wire being this slow. I know the subject matter is different, and some of the issues, like police corruption, are fascinating, but I'm hoping this show picks up the pace now that we've established all these characters. I found myself getting bored watching it at times. Maybe I'm regressing into one of those 8 second attention span, crap food eating morons who need to be constantly entertained with mindless drivel.

She was hired because, unlike most porn actors today, she could act. And she was playing the part of a plain looking woman who lived her life without physical pleasure and committed suicide, and is offered a short amount of additional life and decides to spend it doing everything she never experienced. It's called a "plot" and porn used to have them.

yeah it was an fascinating time, I just discovered an interesting site: the rialto report, lots of interviews with the trailblazers in the field, not your typical porn site either (but im sure nsfw in some parts) even has a location guide to where they filmed some of the mainstream adult films in the 70's

I didn't even know this was the finale, and like others, I feel like it ended too soon, although there are certainly a lot of avenues for them to pursue next season, and hopefully that won't be 2 years away. Terrific show, way too short.
My favorite scene was Candy visiting her brother, which encapsulated the broken life in Lou Reed's "Kill Your Sons" in about 3 minutes.

One could also add Annie Sprinkle, who according to Maggie G. was a consultant to the show

It crossed my mind that the band playing was supposed to be Garland Jeffrey, since Abbey says the singer is "half Black" and they were playing "96 tears", which I believe he later recorded

And wasn't that Andre Royo hanging around Thunder Thighs' crime scene? Sorry, I meant Ruby.

I read on the subreddit for this show that the blonde housewife was based on Seka, who had a long career in the biz.

With Paul wanting to open a downtown club, you kind of wonder if they're going to try and work the 70's rock scene into the plot somehow next season.

I'm with you. Grim and depressing for sure. Not an ounce of fun. And I love 70's stuff like this. Also, what's with the multiple ***** shots? :wtf: Was that really necessary? Gross!

I don't know about convincingly. She comes off way too self assured for a 20 year old in the environment she's operating in.

I wish they weren't jumping forward quite so far, but I'm still really looking forward to the next season.

Her family has money so she knows she can get out anytime she wants and she knows she is way more educated book wise which I think made her come across with a little bit of condescension. Looking forward to next season too hopefully more than 8 episodes.
