Ha, I didnt know that about that lady. Dylan seemed amused by her lol. And yep, for 19 yr old kid that had never been to a Dylan concert before, the people were definitely different. But, you are right, most were a lot of fun to watch and they seemed to really appreciate Dylan. Good odd fans.

I also saw the show in Detroit tonight, front row! What a treat. Bob was in great form IMO! That was the third time I’ve seen Bob (2014, and earlier this year in Detroit) tonight was by far the best. As others have said, you can really tell Bob is loving what he and the band are doing right now.

I am back from the Fox. My last show was Joe Louis Arena in the summer. The show was considerably different than the June/July shows especially in some of the arrangements of the originals being repeated but the "Tangled" I found to be poorer than the summer. The absolute highlight for me was "Thunder On The Mountain. Great new arrangement and Bob's delivery was amazing. Not a mumble to be heard. Also loved Mavis doing the Talking Heads' "Slippery People". She's great.

Yes, really describes fanhood and the reasons Dylan is so worthy of it.

  11. Great show in Akron on Fri. and as noted before the new arrangement of Honest With Me borrows the Beach Boys' Dance Dance Dance riff to great effect- and I just realized the new surfy Thunder on the Mountain is using the riff (and the first guitar solo) from Shut Down Pt. II- someone's been listening to some Beach Boys lately...

It happened in 2004 at the Warner Theatre in DC.

I've just got 14th row tickets for the Richmond show! Can't wait. It'll be my wife's first time seeing Dylan. She didn't want to join last time he came through town, but then regretted it when I played a little of the audience recording for her.

People left a Dylan show early? You don't say???

Eh...I haven't seen the tour but I've seen him use his psychic and physical presence to draw the crowd into every last syllable, and also I've seen him extremely distant to where the audience has to go to him, or they get nothing at all. I don't know if that's separate from how musically inspired he is, but I suspect it would be. One doesn't intrinsically have to do with the other. I've heard one recording of this tour and he certainly seemed engaged and even quite "on" at times.

The heavy security factor is another thing. I like a cell-phone free environment but I like to nip a hit of weed, too :)

He was luminous tonight in Richmond, but for the love of god, people, do you really have to leave your seats for beer and nachos during every song? Way way way the wrong venue for this show.

New rule: you shouldn’t be able to buy hot dogs at a Dylan show.

When I saw Bob in Indiana back in 1981, he kept razzing people from the stage if he saw them getting up and leaving their seats between songs, saying things like "Could you get me a box of popcorn when you go out? Thanks!" and later, "Make that two boxes of popcorn, OK?" It was a smaller venue, so the people were really put on the spot. It was pretty funny.

I agree -- no food sold at shows, only booze. Maybe someday, wacky tabaccy, too. :D

If people moved between songs, I wouldn’t mind so much. Who gets out of their seat during “Desolation Row?”

Here’s the good news: Dylan is a master and performing at peak powers. His voice was rich, inviting, and emotive. He cast a spell tonight, but if you had mustard on your chin, you were immune.

They probably didn't recognize the song!

This one isn't arranged all that differently. One of the more recognizable classic songs played, really.

  24. I also thought Dylan performed well in Richmond. I appreciate that he reconfigures his songs into new arrangements. It’s probably boring doing “Blowin’ in the Wind” the same way for 50+ years. He really showed a great sense of humor with his crooner bit. And “Desolation Row” was stellar. I only wish that the superb Mavis Staples joined him for a song or two.

    Love and theft,

    Bill

I was in the 10th row at the Tower Theatre (Upper Darby, PA) on Saturday night. I really liked it, but I will say that some pauses between songs, a bit of interaction with the crowd and letting the band run more would have been welcome. It was hard to tell if Bob and the band were enjoying the evening or just going through the motions, but we got a good show and the crowd was into it. Mavis was good too and a lot of fun.

Re: the mobile phone ban I saw a few people near me get escorted out for that. It was also kind of funny that once we got to the encores people figured there wasn’t much to lose so a bunch of phones and cameras started coming out.
