Probably buy as many CDs as I have ever done (going back to 1990), partly due to higher disposable income, but also the internet (and forums like this) throwing up more information about things I might like. Enjoy my visits to Japan for some rare stuff. People do not scoff per se but perhaps unorthodox.

In addition, I love technology: all CDs are ripped to FLAC, tagged, digitally filed and put into Sooloos/Roon (as well as backed up). Use Tidal for streaming new stuff sometimes ahead of buying (always want the physical product). One of the things I find interesting is that rare CDs (OOP SACD, DCC, Bowie RCA etc.) are really quite expensive despite run of the mill CDs going for peanuts.
There are plenty of us weirdos around.

Buying cds has always brought me great joy. The idea of data being read by a lazer tickles my fancy. I find the sound very pleasing and I love inserting them into a tray. Plus my collection looks great. It's a tactile thing. No disrespect intended but vinyl just doesn't offer the same joy. Scoffers may scoff but cd lovers know why they love cds.

I agree. I also love that I can listen to a very short section of a song over and over without having to get up and try to find it on a vinyl LP.

I’m not sure what the most depressing element of your post is...whether it’s the fact that listening to a full album was a revolutionary concept for your future son in law, or the fact that there is apparently so little conversation going on during your visits that the silence becomes defeaning, or the fact that the silence can only be aleviated by a god awful 5 inch beats pod...or the fact that he probably thinks that crappy pod is “cool.”

I have had several people tell me I should rip them all to Mp3 and sell them.

And now they say you should sell those cds and pay for a streaming service.

Some laugh upon seeing thousands of cds and records. I do not.

No one should scoff at someone still buying cd's. In an age of streaming where you don't actually own the music, and where - should the streaming company/service disappear - your entire collection would just as quickly disappear with it, records and cd's are tactility's last line of defense :cop:

Just bad phrasing on my account, I'm afraid. I think I was refering to the 30 Trips... box.

But I did pay 120 USD for DaP 2, now that you mention it :biglaugh:

To avoid embarassment I always ask for the CD to be placed in a brown paper bag...

You can get infected with malware, adware, and loose personal info when you just download from the net.
I downloaded some music that was offered on Facebook and got infected. It took me two days to get rid of
some bad stuff.............. It slowed my computer to a crawl.
Yes, I have virus protection on all my computers.
I'm still purchasing cd's, lots of new Blues players out there.

I really don't care if I'm considered cool or not, I gave that up a long time ago. :)

I think it seems unusual because of the ease of digital downloading these days.

It can vary greatly. Not all vinyl is mastered from digital sources.I will say this vinyl pressings these days look different than vinyl pressings from the 60s-9os.

    I've noticed that, too.
Columbia pressings from the 60s...many have this...look...I can't describe it really. But they sound AMAZING (assuming they are minty and clean).
