Mostly due to Brent's Casio keyboard stylings. It is a common complaint.

That, and the lack of Phil. And a good soundmix. Most of the SDBs from that era sounds weird.
I'm sure the live mix you guys heard at the arena was good though!

Yup. I saw them twice that year. Both quite good.

My very first subscription, done. Thanks.

No more whining about being shut out of releases from me.

The band was mostly "meh" that year, a few standout shows, and a lot of rather pedestrian efforts. 1980 is a year that would be served well by careful curation.

Its by far not my first pull, but I prefer it to 84-86 and Vince-era as a baseline. From 79-83 they were still pretty good imo.

After being fairly burned out on the Dead for a few years, I decided to subscribe this year. I did pick up the Cornell release, and to my dismay I still find this show underwhelming. 11/6/77, though, that show is pure cocaine, foreshadowing much of what we'd hear in '78.

    *Bump*

Who else is hoping for a different cover artist for 2018? It's good to shake things up. Amirite?!?
Oh. I'm also finally open to post '85 shows now as long as they sound amazing and have that killer show "X-factor." So do your worst, Dave L. :nyah:

They change the artist every year, so yeah, it'll be someone else.

I'm gonna take pics of every year's 4 CD cover art (with bonus disc cover art) and start a thread very soon.
Stay tuned. It will be a poll. MuWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.

50th Ann. for Anthem of the Sun on the horizon for next year. What y'all think will be on the 2nd disc? Only hope it will be as awesome as the 50th debut.

I would guess a whole show or the highlights of one from Spring/Summer ‘68 would be the bonus. If not that, than my bet would be we will get both mixes of the album.

I believe they should more properly be referred to as "Cartoonists"

The pure cocaine must have wore off in the second set because the band sounds like they are asleep for much of it.

I think perhaps that they should not always discount the use of audience recording or matrixes for the years that were not recorded well from the board. There are many spectacular sounding audience recordings that really put you "there" !:pineapple:

Full Eureka Jan '68 show works for me. Didn't some/all already get RT release? I'll have to double check that. I'm sure i have it in the collection.

Not sure if it's proper of me to ask here, but did anyone get an extra 2018 subscription? I was hoping subs would be on sale into January but the deadline to sign up is December 22. The holidays and other household issues prevented me from ordering, and I don't think I'll be able to get anything done before then. If I have to take my chances with a la carte I will, but hate to miss out on the bonus disc (or get shut out altogether...maybe the unit increase this year will help.)

I think only Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, on the RT 2.2 bonus disc.
