I’m pretty sure there is a comment from Steve Hoffman somewhere here correcting the record on this. He said it’s a fold mix.

He explained it wasn't a "live" mono mix, but a mix from the four-track. Still a proper mix, and not just a collapse of the vintage stereo mix.

Yes, I think I remember that somewhere here in this thread or forum he even recommends the Mono.

"The original mono mix is really the only one that gets it just right....

The reason that the mono gets it right more convincingly is that the vocals are "dipped" during mixing compression and naturally, the music dips in sync with them, like a Top 40 DJ talking over a record on the radio. Works nicely in mono but in stereo you can hear it happening and it sounds fake. The mono hides that..."

----These are Steve Hoffman's words on the Jobim mono from another thread

Not sure if this is the right place to post but the other day it found a 2 LP box set from Time Life that I was surprised to find out sounded quite good.
Anyone else have this? I think it was half speed mastered. Reminded me a bit of the Mofi box in terms of pressing quality and the mastering is quite good too!

Have had a copy since it was first released. Haven't played it in DECADES!

IIRC, all but one track is mono. Watch out for that tape splice in ONE FOR MY BABY!

Good sound, half-speed mastered, but not at Capitol. (Capitol was not equipped to do half-speed cutting.) Lacquers cut somewhere in the midwest, as I recall. Witchcraft sounds great (as do others).

On this absolutely splendid late Fall day here in L.A. I just had to post this equally splendid ode to the Fall:

Gave these LP's a spin last night. Very quiet platters. Very pleasant mix. The records are "see thru" like the MoFi's, BTW.

Ok guys. Since we still haven’t started dedicated threads for each of the Reprise albums yet, I need to ask here :

Who the heck is this supposed to be on the cover?

Mr. Sinatra himself. It’s an excerpt from a larger painting he had at home.

I was driving my mother-in-law (age 90) back from Thanksgiving dinner tonight. I had this album on in the car.

She said: "After all these years, it turned out that no one could ever come close to Sinatra. He was the greatest singer in history."

Your picture didn't come through...given the date, I'm guessing it's referring to SONGS FOR YOUNG LOVERS?

( Once again, attempting to return this thread to its subject of new UMe releases... :) )
Seal may have misspoke. No sign of a full new e-duets album on the horizon, but a Seal/Sinatra SINGLE and video of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” is due out December 8, in time for both Christmas and Frank's birthday this year.
