What are some songs that are at least, say, three minutes long, where, when you're listening to them, you feel like (a) you'd be happy with them continuing indefinitely, and (b) you think it would feel "natural" for them to continue indefinitely?

Another way of asking might be this: "What are some songs that are 'Desolation Row'/'Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands'/'Highlands'-worthy?" Those being a couple tracks that are oddly long--they're not prog epics or anything like that, but that feel like they should be that long. (So that should be another requirement--we're just talking about "normal" songs and not prog epics, etc.)

My first candidate is the Band's "Tears of Rage". It's already over 5 minutes, but to me it seems like it should go on for another 10, at least:

For me it's Supertramp's Goodbye Stranger. I wish it would continue with that amazing solo at the end.

Hendrix's Little Wing fades out too early.

Box Scaggs- "Loan Me A Dime " gets my vote , just to keep Duane Allman playing .

I would say that at least two of those are too short and the third just about right. There are many shorter songs I feel get cut off when they probably are just starting to really gather steam, but my pick would have to be another epic one.

Why couldn't they have let it go on for just a few minutes more? Maybe just one more solo... Then again, that feeling of actually wanting more part of the appeal for me. I'm just greedy, I suppose:

The studio version of King's X "Cigarettes" fades out during an outro guitar solo that absolutely blazes live.

Dylan's Changing of the Guards, for one. The fade-in and fade-out even seem to give that impression - a perpetual song that one just gets to catch a glimpse of as it passes by. Quite clever.

Damn the Machine’s “The Mission” fades out on Chris Poland’s amazing guitar solo. Wish that one went on for a another minute or two.

All songs should end. I just wish some were maybe a few minutes longer.

My immediate thoughts went to all my favorite songs around the 3 minute mark but then I realised they're just perfect, so appropriately

Springsteen's "Hard to be a Saint in the City" from Greetings. Fades out just as band really begins to cook - I think Columbia was marketing Springsteen more as a folky (the new Dylan) than a rocker at the outset.

The Dylan songs mentioned are too long. Great songs, yes. But all need pruning.

Like the funky bass and drums fadeout on the Jeff Beck Group's "Spanish Boots". Were they THAT worried about keeping the album under 30 minutes??

Meant For You, by the Beach Boys and Bob Wilson Anchorman by HMHB could stand being a couple of minutes longer.

Clapton is on fire in the outro, but it fades out much too soon.

Yes - Starship Trooper. Even the longest live versions never have enough of that great guitar solo for me.

There's several, and some of them are currently reissued, or released:

In The Garden: Bob Dylan quite literally a revelation on the live versions from Trouble No More
Merry Xmas Baby: Elvis Presley - almost 8 minutes of a great blues jam. I'm also thinking Eddie Hnton is on this as well as other Swampers.
Chantilly Lace: Jerry Lee Lewis - according to Nick Tosches' Hellfire this was edited down a bit to fit a single
