*raised eyebrows* Awesome! Wonder what the theme will be - I mean, it's apparent it's going to be a retrospective tour, so I wonder if they'll play a full album or something. Doubt it, but that'd be sick.
Invaders and Gangland in the same setlist??? Me and at least two other people on earth would love that!
In for Manchester. Hoping they'll be bold in their setlist choices as several tracks have been well worn for the Somewhere Back In Time and Maiden England history tours. Maybe more love for the mostly neglected Somewhere In Time* and wholly neglected No Prayer albums? *Yes, I know Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait get regular airings but nothing else from the album has. I know this was a trying album for Bruce but it'd be cool to create some more positive associations for him (and us).
The concept for the Legacy Of The Beast World Tour was inspired by Maiden’s mobile game and comic book of the same name and the stage set design will feature a number of different but interlocking “worlds” with a set list covering a large selection of Eighties material with a handful of surprises from later albums to add diversity. Maiden manager Rod Smallwood explains further, “As our fans know, we’ve been following a particular touring cycle ever since Bruce and Adrian re-joined Maiden at the start of the millennium, alternating new album tours with “History/Hits” tours. We enjoy working this way for many reasons, not least because it gives the band a chance to play both new material and the older favourites which we know fans like to hear. It keeps things fresh, not just for the fans but for the band too. “For this History/Hits tour we decided to base the theme around the Legacy Of The Beast name, which suits our purposes perfectly by giving us scope to get creative and have some fun, especially with Eddie! I don’t want to give too much away at the moment but we’re working on a number of different stage sets, all in keeping with the Maiden tradition and we hope to give our fans a fantastic experience when they come to see this very special show.”
4th November 2017 Bruce Dickinson on promoting his new book said this about Iron Maiden "We don't share the idea that going and doing stadiums, playing thirty-year-old songs, is a success. It's just making money" "That is just a band becoming a karaoke band." As for the fans who don't want IRON MAIDEN to play anything but the 1980s classics, Dickinson said: "That's tough. In that case, don't come." 13th November 2017 - Iron Maiden announce Hits/History Tour
The Album tour/"Hits" tour cycle is something they've been doing for a long time. Bruce is taking aim at acts that have existed solely on past glories and don't even put out, let alone tour behind, new music. Iron Maiden tour behind their NEW music (because they actually have new music) and have been for years. In fact, they actually played A Matter of Life and Death in its entirety during that tour cycle. How many 80's rock/metal acts are doing anything like that? As a fan, I think it's the best of both worlds.
Having been attending Maiden Concerts since 1984, I know they play their fair share of new material on tour. Just thought it was funny Bruce would make the comments just before announcing a hits tour though.... unless tickets are free????
You may be missing my point. Of course they play some of the their old stuff (I've seen almost every tour since 1980. The difference is they actually tour behind NEW stuff (which actually sells and still sounds fresh) and alternate those tours where they just play their OLD stuff, unlike most bands that don't have, or tour behind, any NEW stuff. That's Bruce's point (and mine).
Sheesh....glad to see Maiden fans haven't lost their sense of humour!!! Although their humour is watching Bruce run around stage with a plush monkey to mimic the lyrics... hillarious.
I totally get where you're coming from and those two quotes from Bruce are exactly the kind of thing that my sensibility would key in on and say 'hmm'. I respect the hell out of Bruce for his success and the public face of how he has conducted his professional life but he does have a snotty side that sometimes rubs me the wrong way. He did this exact thing in the Flight 666 film when he's talking to Eddie Trunk and he gets all crabby about it being a 'history' tour. They've earned their continued success but they've also been extremely lucky and that can't be overlooked. While I'm guilty of wishing band 'x' would follow the script of band 'y' it's not realistic. Most veteran bands don't have the luxury that Maiden or Metallica have of knowing they can play any set list (new or old songs) and expect a packed house in the big arenas. Most bands are walking a finer line than that.
I'm a big fan of the new album/retro tour cycle. I'm ready for more of the old hits after catching them twice on the Book of Souls tour. Will definitely catch this whenever they hit the US.
