List your pick for favorite Psychedelic album of the 1st era of that type music.Share you story as to why you chose that specific LP.I will obviously begin with my all-time fav

The Great Society - Conspicuous Only In Its Absence.I cho Happeningse this not only due to fact it was Grace Slicks 1st recorded performance(recorded 1966 released 1968 to cash in on Airplane popularity) but to me the true sound of mid-60s San Francisco. The definitive versions of Sally Go Round The Roses,White Rabbit&Somebody To Love.Recorded live in front of a small crowd you can almost smell the patchouli&grass and see colors while listening to this.A very real Psychedelic experience.Essential IMO.Peace.
Note:This post has excluded demo&embryonic versions on Born To Be Burned & other comps. because I don't consider those comps mention worthy.

Piper at the gates of dawn. I think a lot of the other bands dipped their toe in to psychedelia as it was the current trend. Let's make some "craaazee sounds" "far out maaaan" ect....piper is genuinely strange.

Going with Piper as well as it is the first album that comes to mind when I am thinking about this genre. Was also thinking about Revolver but to me that is just a great rock album with psych overtones.

Don't know or have heard a great number but 1967 Creams "Disraeli Gears" was what I thought pure psychedelia.Especially after listening to Tales of Brave Ullysses on acid in 1979.I felt I was coming down in stages from the top of the world (North Pole)as the songs guitar solo wound down."Dance The Night Away" is another psychedelic masterpiece. So is "World of Pain".

Blew my mind and was my first exposure to the band as a studio record. I was young, enhanced and properly destroyed by the musical strata developed by studio and live cuts intermingling.

New Potato Caboose was especially visual. "Thick Air"

    Second choice: Pretty Things -Parachute

Although I love many many albums from the sixties, in my opinion the best music was still released on 45. The single was the primary music medium of the period, and albums only took over that role at the tail end of the decade. So my vote goes to Acid Dreams, a compilation which actually was released in 1979, almost 10 years after the decade had ended, but the album includes a number of unknown mid-60s groups whose songs back then only were released as singles. Unlike so many other psychedelic garage compilations, which so often are marred by subpar material, Acid Dreams was one of the first of its kind, so the compilers still had a treasure trove of obscure nuggets to choose from. All killer, no filler!.
