I didn't know you could log them without giving all the details. That should make it a bit easier and I could always go back and be specific. It's probably been noted before, but isn't discogs a good place to log your records if you have house/rental insurance?

If I worked for an insurance company, I'd want more proof than somebody simply saying they own 465 rare Beatles records on a website.

I search my Discogs wantlist daily....just to check if anything new may have been put up for sale.

It's super helpful to have it on my iPhone to see what's in my collection when I'm in a store. With 1,000 LPs I am too prone to trying to buy the same one more than once!

I'd help with logging items into the database, but (a) I don't feel that I know much about the process and rules and (b) I feel like it would end up being like my days as a Wikipedia editor, which was a lot of hassle for little benefit to anyone, so.....best for me to let that sleeping dog lie.

I've had decent experiences 95 percent of the time. A few jerks. One who was very optimistic about the grade they gave, and sold me a $75 record full of skips. Another who was deeply offended when I asked for photos of the vinyl. (And I was a click away from buying - again, a $100 items, not some $1 cheapie bin item.)

I go to Discogs several times a week lately. Been adding to my collection and enjoying just browsing as well.

This is a little bit off topic, but I don't think it warrants a new thread - has anybody else been having trouble with the Discogs iPhone app? I haven't been able to get mine to load at all since mid-October. If I drag it down to refresh, it will spin until the apocalypse. The app is fully up to date, however the phone is not; I have never downloaded an iOS update on it and I never will. I'm curious if the problem lies in faulty code with the Discogs app, or if Discogs is a sacrifice I have to make to prevent this awful, awful machine from becoming substantially worse.

No technical problems with the Discogs app on my iPhone 7 with latest iOS upgrade. I do think the app is flawed from a UX point of view, though.

I search discogs for vinyl pressing info pretty much daily.

It is also always my first stop after hitting the record store for used vinyl (about twice per week) to check out what I got.

I am lucky to have great record stores in my town so I mostly use discogs for info with occasional purchases.

The app has its flaws and was never perfectly reliable but it can't load any new pages, or my wantlist/collection past late October. It probably has nothing to do with my phone being out of date and everything to do with it being MY phone. I think I'm on Apple's naughty list, I've had three iPhones and they've all been indefensible trash. This is the worst of the lot, though, and that includes the one with faulty connection from the electronics to the screen!

Sorry, can’t help you there. I owned a 4, 5 and 6. Each one for 2 years and they worked perfectly. And also in years 3 and 4 when my daughter used them. Currently I’m typing on a 13 months old 7. No problems until now.

    You're not on Apple's naughty list. I am. :)

I spoke disparagingly of Apple Music and the decision to dispense with the built-in headphone jack... I have earned my punishment.

Without any other information, I'd tend to suspect the bit I've highlighted from your post, especially if the phone is more than a year or two old. Although certain apps do sometimes get caught in a repetitive loop of crashing, often leading to a complete deletion/reinstall of the app, but I can't say that I've ever heard of that happening with Discogs.

I got the phone at the end of January, and it was this bad when I got it.

Like I said, the Discogs app not working isn't the end of the world. The thing is called a phone, but the phone features have never worked on it (but really, do they ever for other people?) - luckily I don't have friends, and it functions as a decent MP3 player. Or at least pre-iPhone 7 it did. I'm rambling again. Sorry.

The problem seems to be my phone, as I suspected. Thanks all for clearing that up.

I use it daily. Have most of my Vinyl and CD's added to my account. Have bought many LP's and have been disappointed a few times on the grading, not what I would have graded them at.
It is not complete, but being add to all the time. I have added quite a few into the data base my self. Have fixed mistakes which I come across now and then.

Been there done that on editing a release when I should have entered a new one.
Still make some mistakes but much better than when I had joined, still learning.
Have contacted user to make sure they have submitted the right data for a certain release.
Hate it when I want to add a release and can only find one with no image or just the front cover and no other info. Do I add the info from mine or make a new release which gets merged latter. Lots of fun though.

I was just about to post the same thing. The app is something I use as a last resort. I usually try and login via the browser on my phone too.

Discogs is a free resource so I'm not going to get too annoyed about things, but with the money the owner of the site is making I do think it's feasible that they can spend a bit on the app and some other changes users have been requesting (on the main site) for years.

If there is really nothing that makes that bare bones submission any different then the one you have in front of you (do check for additional info in the submission history) then you certainly can and SHOULD edit it to make it as close as possible to the release you have in front of you. Done it numerous amounts of time and have had no grief whatsoever. In fact, I can't remember having gotten any negative votes in the last 2 years.

I only use the Discogs app when I'm looking through vinyl to see if I already have something in my collection.
I use my desktop PC at home to add things to my collection/wantlist.
Things I add on my PC take a bit of time before I see them through the app.
I mostly only have my vinyl collection listed.
I had, for a short time, thought about also adding my T Rex CDs...
Then I thought Nah, too much work.

I've been doing a fair amount of selling on Discogs over the past year. It sure is more user-friendly than eBay, though you run across a few characters trying to score a bargain. I recently listed some LPs from my collection that were in extremely nice condition...solid NM...and made sure I offered them at prices lower than all over advertised NM copies on the Discogs marketplace. One guy said "I could find sealed copies for the same prices you're asking." It took a fair amount of restraint from me telling them "Then go buy them elsewhere and stop bugging me." For the record (no pun intended), I was asking less than $20 for 30-year old records that I maybe only played once or twice. Not exactly price gouging, especially since nobody was offering cheaper copies for sale!

I can understand the negative thoughts concerning Discogs, I often find things that are very inaccurate and wrong...in these days I'm trying to correct many inaccuracies and errors in those titles that I know well, of which I have sources sure and precise. I'm putting everything I know into that database. Unfortunately, my musical knowledge is closely linked only to the LPs that I like and that are in my small collection (if musically I do not like an album I do not buy it), for which I have researched over many years. I speak of first press only...
I'm not a seller nor a customer (in years, I sold four LPs and I bought two or three ...). I am now entering information (new releases) not yet present in the database, and correcting some others, with safe and proven data.
They do not accept anything else.
And anyway they have very "difficult" and sometimes useless and a little stupid rules to tell the truth...
If those who upload a release on Discogs were as precise as I would like they were all (also for the item condition, not only for the info) ... but I'm just dreaming ...

Love it and check it at least three times daily. The only thing I really hate (but I'm just as guilty of it at times) is when submiters don't put track times on releases or, if it is actually listed incorrectly on the cd info cards, put that wrong info up as well.

This usually happens because the release is copied from another with different running times and left without checking by the new submitter. "Oh, the first track is the same so it must be all the same" logic. I've corrected a lot of these beasts.

I use discogs constantly, and at least several times every single day for the last few years.

Never had a problem using it, only problems with sellers sending the wrong things, etc, the usual stuff.

It's the best, and worst resource (since it costs me so much money, ha ha), for music that i've ever used.
The hoffman forums are probably the 3rd or 4th best for music references.
