Fair enough. Have you tried Longmire (Netflix) and/or Bosch (Amazon). My son and I like both of these shows.
Did anyone mention the TV version of “Fargo”? The first season was incredible - it had excellent casting, and was dramatic and suspenseful, with unexpected character development (good and bad) and balanced out with dark humor. I haven’t seen the following seasons yet, but read good reviews.
Sure woulda liked to have seen where this went next... Just one season- no patience... Some wild stuff
Yes Fargo was mentioned recently by me. Season 3 : kept me enthralled. Season 2 : was a adrenaline rush. Season 1 : was pure black comedy gold.
I didn't read through the whole thread so I don't know if anyone recommended Tin Star, it's an Amazon original series staring Tim Roth, it's set in the Canadian Rockies.
Just noticed over the weekend my Deadwood BD has sync problems Season one, episode 4. That's a first. Sloppy production, apparently only Region 2. Pity... Straight to trade pile.
Watched "The Son" (2017) Season 1. Half the story is set in 1849 south Texas Comanche territory , the other half set in 1915, oil land grab. Staring Pierce Brosnan. Sort of "There Will Be Blood" meets "Dances With Wolves". Well I hope season 2 turns out that way at least.
I just re-watched Goliath and remain impressed with the quality of that show. This is the first time I've really liked Billy Bob Thornton as an actor, and he won the best actor award for good reason. The story is a gripping legal drama and had the feel of a very well done MOVIE throughout. I'm looking forward to season 2 in 2018.
yep, that's being shot here in Austin, a few folks from the show have been around. For other series, have you checked: Banshee-sounds insane (in a stupid way) but is crazy in a good way-- dude gets out of the joint, goes to hook up with his female partner in crime, finds himself as the new town sheriff through a quick identity shift of necessity, and then has to deal with corrupt locals, outside gangsters, Russian mob, bikers, etc. More gratuitous violence and sex in one episode than most shows have in an entire run. Strike-Back-- dark ops Brits hook up with American special forces guy who went off the reservation and they go hunting for terrorists, narcos, nuke builders, through exotic locales and high impact action scenes-- almost a constant buzz, no time wasted with back stories except as necessary. Lean and mean. Godless- short series, dark period western, get past the first episode and you are good. Town decimated by mining accident, leaving the woman folk. Insane gang leader played by Jeff Daniels (out of character but good), seeks revenge against former partner, who happens to hole up in the town.
Whoa! I've watched and enjoyed PB but it should never be mentioned alongside Deadwood. It's like comparing a lion to a cat! Coincidentally, speaking if all things Milch, just last night I watched 4 episodes of HBO's 'Luck' on Amazon. As a fan of David Milch I've watched all his work repeatedly. Luck was ended prematurely which is really too bad, it was outstanding!
Out of the three Fargo tv series I'd say .. Season 3 is the best then right behind season 2,lastly season 1. They all are of a high standard.
I can also heartily recommend "Godless"-probably the best shot series in the last several years. If you like Mad Men, you may like "Good Girls Revolt" on Amazon. Start watching "Bosch" soon, you won't regret it. Another excellent period (50's-60's) dramedy is "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" on Amazon. Also along those lines is "Masters Of Sex"-excellent drama about Masters & Johnson with Michael Sheen.
