  2. Easily in my top 2 films of all time. Every time. This film is perfection.

Yes. I bought the Blu ray last year. I was proud that every film mentioned in Mad Men, is already in my collection !

My favorite line from that terribly sexist time in our history, comes from Mad Men. Joel Murray expressing his astonishment at a woman having a great idea : " it was like watching a dog play the piano ! "

He had great comedic timing, especially playing off Lemmon. Those two should have worked togther more. If MacMurray didn't wander off into 'My Three Sons' and 'Son of Flubber" he probably could have had some great roles in the 60's

Always enjoy watching The Apartment, you can't go wrong with a Billy Wilder film.:righton:

  6. The releases of his films on blu-ray have been exquisite. I watched A Foreign Affair and Witness for the Prosecution not too long ago.

Except for Buddy Buddy. That was a sad way to end an incredible career.

You don't want to! Stars Lemmon and Matthau, but it's very unfunny.....and sad as a result. I felt like an Errol Flynn fan (which I am) watching Cuban Rebel Girls (which I own).

Yeah, he'd proved that in Double Indemnity.....and showed his ability to play a convincing louse in The Caine Mutiny. A shame that most people think of him now only from his good-guy roles in the sixties.

yeah its a rough one, I don't think its so bad, but not in the same league with the rest of his career. but I think wilders batting average has to be one of the best ever. my favorite director of all time

Mine, too. I suspect they figured out their pre-order price was absurdly low.

I have a copy on the way from Bullmoose, but at a higher price of course.

Very first day it was available for preorder, whenever that was - September? I have read across forums there were lots of cancellations which is too bad because the set looks very nice.

FWIW, here's Mark Steyn's commentary on The Apartment.

    The Apartment: 16 December 2017

One of my favorite Wilder films--which, sadly, didn't get the fame of some of his other films-- was Avanti! Tight-a$$ industrialist heir Jack Lemmon goes to an Italian island to fetch his father's body; turns out Dad had been spending time there with his mistress. The mistress's daughter (Juliet Mills) shows up...well, amor vincit omnia. Clive Reville steals the show as the Hotel Manager.

I’ve always wanted to see this. It’s hard for me to believe I’ve never seen.
