For me it has to be Astronaut. Though it doesn't contain most of my favourite songs, it is very tight and that's what I am looking for in an album.

In fact, Sunrise and Bedroom Toys are the only songs that are some of my favourites created by the band that I can find in this album.

    So, what about you?

Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Dark synth-pop meets GROOVE and it's amazing!

I’m going for Notorious. I always seem to enjoy it. Side 1 is fantastic. It’s also a great sounding (relatively) early CD.

After this it would be Rio, Seven and Astronaut in that order. Decade if I’m feeling lazy and want a quick fix.:)

Rio - better than the brilliant debut and never bettered by them in 30+ years. A pop masterpiece. The one minor blemish is the album version of "My Own Way" as I prefer the single version. Favourite track is the sublime "Save A Prayer"

I went for Notorious. Great songs sounding great.

PS. Notice no Paper Gods among the choices. Have we started erasing it from memory (which it deserves)? ;-)

    Never heard of it.. :)

No, really. I didn't know about this album. I will give it a listen and add it to the poll. Thanks!

Edit: I have no idea how to edit the poll. Well, I hope no one will be bothered.

Rio - the first album of theirs that I heard, and it's what they played to a large extent at the first show of theirs that I saw. It's a strange album with all of the different pressings. My perfect version would be:

    1. Rio - original UK LP mix
    2. My Own Way - original UK LP mix
    3. Lonely In Your Nightmare - US LP mix
    4. Hungry Like The Wolf - Night Version/US final LP mix
    5. Hold Back The Rain - UK 12" (B-side Save A Prayer)
    6. New Religion
    7. Last Chance On The Stairway
    8. Save A Prayer - video soundtrack (which was the original version before edits were made for the LP)
    9. The Chauffeur

I want to give second place to Liberty which has some of their best songs, especially My Antarctica which is the best track Arcadia never did.

I voted for Rio. It's just ridiculously consistent. Last Chance on the Stairway and The Chauffeur are two of my all time favourite Duran tracks.

The Chauffeur might be my favourite song of the band. It's simply mind-blowing and I don't know why.

Rio, with Duran Duran, Notorious, and All You Need Is Now not too far behind.

I'd vote for the first album, but Rio isn't far behind. I don't really find too many redeeming qualities in their music after that. I can't believe Seven and the Ragged Tiger currently has 11 votes and the debut only has 3 because it's pure 80s cheese for the most part: "Don't wanna be in public my head is full of chopstick I don't like it" Guess when you get loads of money, the drive and passion is sometimes over for good. When they brought in the backup singers and the tacky stage show (Arena) my interest was over.

Rio, but I have a lot of love for the first LP too :)

Unfortunately I can't listen to them though. They were my little brother's favourite band and I lost him in '93 when he was 23 and I was 25.

I realized I hadn't listened to Astronaut in a long time and pulled out the SACD last week. It's odd because I was nuts over the album when it was released but that may have had to do with the excitement over the original lineup. I sort of soured on it over the years but enjoyed it when I played it last week. Point Of No Return is still my favorite on the album (I know, I'm weird). I love the demo version of What Happens Tomorrow with the Silent Icy River bit left in and wish they kept that on the album version but we ended up getting a nice b-side out of it at least.

Of the post Liberty albums, All You Need Is Now is my favorite by a long shot and Astronaut would probably fight for the number three spot with Red Carpet Massacre (queue gasp).

Rio (original UK tracking) will probably always top the list for me. It really is the perfect album imo. :)

I like Rio a lot but always wish they kept that rerecorded version of My Own Way off of it.
