Rock Candy Records re-issues are they all just loud/Brickwalled releases? Or hit & miss Re-mastered releases (some good and some bad)? Seen the Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush) Remastered CDs (2017)have been recently put out. Sound ? Stick to Original '80s releases on CD? Any Good or Bad experiences with this Label? Appreciate the time to give your thoughts/opinions here
Varies from album to album. Some are very well done, others are loud; as does their source material. Haven't heard any feedback on the Marinos yet
Good to know that, thanks! Juggernaut & FM & MR Live were released in April of 2017 and am tempted.Live has the two Cal II Jam songs as bonus tracks.
Stay awaaaaay from Juggernaut... brickwalled according Jon Astley. 99% of their reissues sound so poor. One of the worst boutique labels!
Maybe the original cd release of Juggernaut? Really that's the goal for me on the Marino Cds ;Best version.
I bought a couple a while back - Praying Mantis-Time Tells No Lies which I had to return as it was unlistenable, and Sammy Hagar-Street Machine which was fine. So miss & hit!!
I bought the Zebra (debut) and ripped into PC awhile ago. Never really cranked it(seems the litmus test for brickwalling?) and never had on CD beore(on vinyl in the mid '80s and is long gone) So, have no immediate reference ?
I own the BGO Mahogany Rush CDs & like them. Each contains two or three titles for the price of one: BGO Records I also have the first three titles released on Big Beat Records as a two disc set: Mahogany Rush - Ace Records Again, good sound quality.
Thanks for this. This is the meat & potatoes that I find very informative! Appreciate it Thanks for this tip here (Juggernaut). I have (for what it is) the two-fer & three-fer (BGO) that comprises of IV through to What's Next CDs.
Rock Candy started out in the Sixties as-The Contemplations[Alone With No Love-1969]which has become a cult classic and hard to find[I'm still looking for it].
Am I misreading this? It sounds like you're talking about a band? Not the Record Label? Forgive me if I'm off on this. Just
Another thing about Rock Candy is they always say that they’re remastered . Remastered from what? Do they have access to the original tapes by bands? I think they’re questionable. The one positive is that they do reissue hard to find stuff. Sometimes there really is no alternative if you want a certain album on cd.
They are hit or miss. I believe there have been one or two I wasn't impressed with, but the others sound perfectly fine to me, cranked in my car.
I've loads of Rock Candy reissues including the Praying Mantis album mentioned earlier. They're all excellent, to my ears. Edit: Just checked. I've got 98 albums by 64 artists on Rock Candy. No problems with any of them, bearing mind that, often, I have nothing to compare them to.
