I don’t suppose anyone would choose Psper Gods as the favorite, but I don’t hate it. Also it seems like So Red The Rose pretty much qualifies as Duran Duran album. Rio is my very favorite, but I absolutely love everything from the 80’s, including Arcadia and Big Thing. After that I like tracks from every release, but can’t say I really love any post 80’s Duran Duran album.

The one-two punch off the debut and Rio has never been approximated again (debut being the set-up and Rio being the knock out). Unbelievable that what came next is trending at #2 right now, an abysmal album with barely half an album of redeeming moments. Although Notorious has aged quite well, Duran Duran did no better overall until All You Need Is Now but as strong as it was, it still didn't eclipse the debut/Rio/Notorious.

As I wrote in a published review of Medazzaland back when the album came out, Duran Duran is always trying to reinvent their wheel and often coming up with a square.

I often wonder why I keep trying but there are usually at least one or two rich rewards per album that keep me coming back.

So Red The Rose is 1985 Duran Duran and a brilliant return to form after the not so great S&TRT.

Post 80's every album has a few classics. The Wedding Album has "Ordinary World" & "Come Undone" - rest doesn't do much for me

I wondered the same thing on the first page. I think it maybe because it was the height of their fame.

Here's my theory; starting with "Notorious" no Duran Duran album really is as good as we'd secretly wished it was. Some of them are better ("Wedding Album", "All You Need Is Now", "Notorious") but they remain a somewhat frustrating album band. Maybe next time?!

Favourite album? Love the first three. Going to choose one....

Same here. 1st three for me. Some great songs through-out their career however.
Even enjoy a couple of off 'Paper' :hide:
Actually doing a transfer right now from the old US Rio- Harvest (k-mixes)

This was my first exposure to Duran Duran, and it remains my favorite release (mostly for sentimental reasons).

The drums coming in over the drum machine midway through The Chauffer is one of the best musical moments ever.

No love for Thank You - what an ill advised idea that was...

    Notorious gets my vote!

Yes! That single version of "My Own Way" smokes the album take, IMO.

For me it's the first album, especially for side 2. Can you members comment on the sound quality of the re issues before I start getting some. Originals or the newer pressings??

I voted Seven And The Ragged Tiger. It works well as an entire album, even though there may be higher highs on the first two albums.

Skipped the remaster laid to wax for S/T.
Grabbed Rio 2x12 2009 for collection reasons, I don't remember anything offensive about it.
    For S/T I only have the 1983 US re-issue.
For Rio on wax the Japan is my go to for the UK tracks. (I haven't heard a UK). For US mixes the old Harvest Precision, but it uses an edit of Hungry the rest are full length.
For the full length everything I can't seem to find a good sounding side 1. Running at about 26 minutes takes it's toll.

Even though I sorta resisted it in its day, I now look back at some of the stuff on Rio with great fondness. It was big during a crucial period of my late teens & (very) early adulthood and was in nearly constant rotation on KROQ, Pasadena, CA.

I had that first album reissue on cd and there was a skip (not my cd; confirmed digital error) at the beginning of Girls on Film. Is the vinyl version like that too? Thought those reissues were garbage honestly aside from some of the bonus tracks and dvds.

For some unknown reason - although speculated the band didn't like it - "My Own Way" is omitted.

Redeemed by fantastic cover of "Perfect Day" which was praised by Lou Reed as his favourite cover
