“Martin & Co even took the unusual step of playing their final mix to a group of diehard fans for feedback, to make sure they were not going to be accused of trespassing on hallowed ground. They needn’t have worried. Reaction to the new mixes has been universally euphoric, and the 50th-anniversary version topped the charts in the UK and was a top 5 in dozens of other countries, including the US. Against the odds, the 2017 remix of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band looks set to become the definitive version.”

I love how it outsold everything in 2017.

    Sgt Pepper #1...again.

Hey, does anyone know -- has Abbey Road finally ditched the B&W monitors for PMC?

Diehard fans? Universally euphoric? Probably the same folks who still think their old Capitol LPs sound great...

If I'm remembering correctly, Steve Hoffman doesn't like the Steve Hoffman remix. ;)

The Pepper remix is no sonic marvel, that's for sure. But it is an insightful and interesting listen. It can even be fun to listen to if you're in the right mood!

Sure, they could have done a better job, but you just have to take it for what it is. If I want to hear a proper mix of Pepper, I simply listen to one of the actual stereo or mono mixes from 1967.

If I want to peak behind the curtain a bit more and change up the sonic perspective, I listen to the remix, or maybe a b**tleg of studio sessions.

My Local Store did a review of a bunch of Sgt Pepper Pressings. Including this one.

I wish I shared your optimism about the younger generation. I am generally optimistic, but let me share this anecdote.

My son was in a music production class in college last year, and at the beginning of the class the teacher told all the students they needed to get headphones with a flat response level, and specifically pointed out "no Beats or [whatever the other popular non-flat response earbuds are these days]".

About 95% of the students showed up for the next class with Beats or [whatever the other popular non-flat response earbuds are these days].

I have no doubt the quote is correct.

It’s the “appeal to authority” with diehard fans that has me rolling my eyes.

This guy truly loves everything bunched up together on one speaker and one instrument on the other. Oh and maybe just a lead vocal in the center.
