I imagine the interview with the Pakistani activist won't exactly be a laughfest.

The list of guests does less than nothing for me and I think we all know what direction every one of these episodes will take. This is something I would be able to stomach if David still had a decent sense of humor but I'm afraid that he'll just continue with his bitter old man shtick (although I'd love to be proven wrong on all counts).

David Letterman doing a show without Norm Macdonald is like fries without ketchup.

  7. I'd love to see Norm Macdonald as a guest

Dave made it clear in the recent 90-minute interview with Howard Stern that he's a much kinder, gentler person, and he would do quite a bit of his career differently if he had his life to do over again. In particular, Dave says he would have enjoyed his life more and not have spent so many years worrying that it was all going to end.

  9. Seems interesting enough. I'll give it a shot.

Only one guest per episode ... you'd expect some more daring guests. If every episode is on the 12th, the April one will be on his birthday :agree:

I think the point is to get guests Dave is interested in talking to. He's at his best as an interviewer when he actually cares about the person he is talking to, which on the last few years of The Late Show seemed to be about 20% of the time at most. They also obviously have to think a little bit about who the public might be interested in seeing interviewed. Who would you consider a viable "daring guest" for this show?

I don't think there's any chance whatsoever that the Queen would do it, and probably not McCain either at this point in his life. It wouldn't surprise me if several of the others are on the shortlist of desired guests for potential future episodes. I don't think I'd say any of the above are necessarily any more daring than the people he's already got, though.

Watching now. As soon as he announced that President Obama would be his first guest, this was a must-see.

Here's the thing. No desk. No houseband. No "Late Nite" gimmicks. It's just two guys in chairs, talking. If his old format is what turns you off, give this a shot. I'm 15 mins in and it's wonderful.

I don't think the level of complaining is all that new, but it may be that the accumulation over the decades is starting to wear on you.

It's well done. Nice to see that Paul wrote and played the recorded theme song. Very noticeable on the ending credits.
