Jogen Angel photographed the very first show Sept 7 1968
There is a photo from Sept 12 and Sept 15 1968 as well as a series of on stage and backstage photos from the Marquee in Oct 1968 (See LZ Super Deluxe book)
There are also a few photos from the Gonzaga University show in late Dec 1968.

Jorgen Angel had a limited run poster print made of the photos he took from the first show in Copenhagen back in the late 2000's or the early part of the 20-teens. I bought one of them and have it on display. I don't know if he's sold out of his run or not.

I totally agree! And I know that 2007 mix omits some great parts for example on No Quarter, but I love the additions of the extra songs plus some of the vocal splices are a lot lot cleaner on that 2007 mix such as The Song Remains The Same and Stairway. A more dynamic remaster would be welcomed

Page is really proud of those concerts. Will he really let those original versions go unremastered?
I always wondered if kramer mixed an entire show or even some alternate mixes.
This could be the right time for an interesting companion disc.

At my count there were 32 gigs in 1968, 16 in the UK which if any were taped are the most likely candidates - here's hoping!

Page gets criticized a lot for edits fixes and patches and I get why but at the same time if he leaves all the warts in the less enlightened fan base which are the ones who don t listen to boots will **** all over the performance and say is this the best he's got for a release and the hardcore fan base is the minority . So he can't win either way. Thats why he needs a bootleg series type thing and do polished official release. Everyone points to the fact that the dead put out unedited shoes but those unedited shows are geared towards the hardcore and they only print 16 000 or so of those shows and are not mainstream releases and when the dead do a mainstream release its usually a multitrack show and there had been studio processing such as re recording the original guitar track through a guitar amp and laying the 2 guitar tracks together

I think Eddie Kramer said he mixed the Carnegie Hall show in 1969 but whether this happened or not and if so what happened to the tapes, is a source of some debate shall we say.

I still haven't been able to find a source for him actually saying he did any of that. Someone on RO.com said he read it in an interview when Kramer was first promoting his website but couldn't remember when or where and what he said exactly. I would love to find a source for that quote.\

An audience tape apparently exists and I was told sounds excellent. I wouldn't mind hearing that either.

In Barney Hoskyns Zep book Chris Dreja said he was invited by Page to that show and he could literally feel the building shaking. He was also stunned they were playing such a large venue so early in their career.

  11. Does anyone know who mastered the original 2003 CD of How The West Was Won? I have the CD but no mastering engineer is credited.

Was the late George Marino at Sterling Sound still managing the LZ catalogue at that point?

Given the recent re-release of the Yardbirds 68 show (March 1968) one would hope there is something there besides a bootleg Gonzaga.

DVD Audio mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound. I would assume it is the same for the cd.

I think the blu-ray is a great deal! I can finally get this in surround sound!

I'm planning on educating myself to rip blu-ray audio so I can get the stereo layer for my iPod. That will nicely eliminate my need to get the CD, too.

  15. You'll probably find that the 24/96 stereo track will be available on HDtracks. All the other previous LZ releases are.

Around three or four lossless formats are available on there.

But it's free if I rip the blu-ray disc. :)

has just appeared on the official Zep forums and sadly in the photos there are no extra mics on anything. So not multi tracked or anything, shame.

There were so many milestone shows zeppelin played you would think page would have multitracks the really prestiges shows like Carnegie hall or the first l.a forum show or shows like their first shows at msg in 1970 or the 1971 Wembley shows. But I guess led wallets trumped prestige

  21. Muss up his hair a bit and Page would look ready to play Dennis the Menace (UK).

I don't think bands that have recorded more shows to multi-track were thinking about prestige as much as product availability. Of course there's going to be some exceptions but even the prestige shows are probably recorded mostly so they can be released rather than memories for the band aren't they?

I don't think Zeppelin were necessarily thinking about product based on a live show as much as other bands were. They obviously did select some shows, e.g. RAH, LA and LB 72 and EC 75, which I think actually qualify under prestige or milestone shows. Especially EC 75. That was a big deal to them. So I do think they did care to a certain degree but overall it wasn't a priority as much as it was for other bands to document their live performances.

Zeppelin missed a plane and barely made it there on time. (No soundcheck) And not all of their equipment arrived either.

I doubt the show was professionally recorded. (not too many mics over the drums or near the amps)

Indeed, and it did not take long after Zeppelin's demise for both Page and Peter Grant to rue their decision not to document as many performances as they perhaps should have.

Essentially Grant set Zeppelin's busness model up so to experience the band you had to buy something, a ticket or a record. No TV, no festivals from 1971-78. It worked at the time but it's left them with few "documents" if you like, compared to other bands of their size.
