Hmmm I love Aerosmith and they are probably (this minute ;-)) my favourite band -- I streamed the new JP album very bluesy and my conclusion was that saved me a few quid as I'm now not going to buy it.
I don't think he has made a decent solo album since his first 2 IMHO... which are great.
Not trying to be a downer... Just my 2c

Ever since 'The Spirit' when I headbanged my IQ down from already slightly-challenged-neanderthal to swamp-bank-dawdler.

They completely lost the plot in the mid 80s (like so many) but twenty years later came back with a melodic vengeance tempered by the woeful tears of the best bits of that epoch yet melded with certain 'signatures' of the early period which when suffused with some mighty production values, established them in a delightfully unflinching vector of creativity - just like Accept, Saxon and to a lesser extent, Megadeth* - simply doing what they do best and not giving much of a stuff about tattoos, overtly inappropriate facial hair or 'wearables.'

Not bagged this latest but have these last few days been hugely rotating their last from 2016, off which the last three or four tracks have had their hooks most deeply in me.

They aren't Metal and may not even be that Heavy but they're kind of Hard/Heavy-Lite - but it just doesn't matter when such unfettered musical mana steamrollers any misgivings into flat out submission.

Big fan of Catley's voice which has matured into something so smotheringly reassuring it should be measured in togs.

(*Or dare I venture, Bernie Shaw-to-date period Uriah Heep?)

I think an hour later I finally managed to decipher the band name on that album cover. Magnum.

I couldn’t figure it out, either!

Boy, I just have to be honest. Most Magnum output I’ve heard has been really poor. I’ve tried to get into them and it just doesn’t work. Too milquetoast for my tastes.

Popoff discussed the top metal/hard rock of 1978 as voted by bangertv's viewers. Predictable list, but I always like hearing his thoughts and he does have some interesting shout outs at the end.

While not groundbreaking, the title track from the upcoming Judas Priest album sounds promising:

Hmm... if there was an antithesis of the 'cool, low slung geetar' aesthetic, then much of their better output is possibly it.

It's impossible to defend on a forum like this where points are awarded for the kind of chic antisocialism, perhaps best carved out by those delightful, Norge folk, culminating with a penchant for church conflagration and the innumerable wannabes/facsimilies/offshoots/derivations thereof.

Further, there's a great deal of quirk within which originally, I suspect, was a highly British affair, maybe like 'Tull until (at least the mid 80s) and pre-'Kayleigh,' Fish era Marillion.

But then again, it isn't Metal; no, not hardly at all but it does rock with a hard(ish) edge and a melodic calibre which at peak is perfectly fine and like the previously cited, later 'Heep, sort of comes in, entirely under the radar of the cool kidz and manages to build upon what they'd always done which was to make some genuinely thumping Rock, all the while labouring under the denigration of feeble tags like 'second tier.'

Don't get me wrong, they did produce some undiluted cack but seem to have made a string of partially weighty records which feature some compelling, reputation-shrieving melody drives that are largely, sonically irresistible.

If they were being dishonest about who and what they are, I might agree with you. But Nakamoto, Mizuno and Kikuchi have always been up front about the fact that they didn't even know what metal was before Kobayashi recruited them for Babymetal.

But they're no more of a gimmick act than Ghost (BC) IMO. They're no more generic than dozens of other commercial metal bands.

Whether they'll ever become as big as Metallica or Maiden remains to be seen. Maybe they'll still be together 10 years from now, maybe the novelty will wear off and they'll be just another footnote in metal history.

I've said before that being a pop star is nice work if you can get it. But at the end of the day, it is work. They're recording the songs and putting on the shows. They're putting the work in. I say they're owed at least a begrudging level of respect if for that reason alone.

And Nakamoto, with her crooked teeth and taxi-door ears; if I was a teenager, I'd have her poster on my wall.

Yes, better put my order in now. Some that ordered just before Missing Peace release got delayed.

Surprising how good they sound. Tracii is the most underrated guitarist. Phil is underrated. L.A. guns are underrated.

They should at least be on that list of 3 band bills that tour sheds & arenas.

They were on fire tonight. Phil sounds exactly the same. Tracii....better!

    *Side Note:

That’s the thing with these bands farewell or final tours. Everytime one big one goes away, the trickle down is that it’s one less tour, so one or more bands that would open end up losing all that exposure. Motley, Sabbath, now Slayer - there are trickle down effects.

Yeah, but the songs just didn't have the hooks and chorus like GNR did, LA Guns was more straight ahead rock, while GNR was more progressive, maybe.....IDK.
I'm actually listening the 1st cd again - love it!
