I can listen to the original stereo mix of Freak Out! (sans Monster Magnet) any day of the week. It is bloody brilliant. In recent weeks, I’ve been listening to Absolutely Free on repeat. It is brilliant too, in a manically insane kind of way.
This'un... I can certainly understand everyone being in a mad rush to devour Roxy, but I'm very happy to be knee-deep in this (3-CD version) and Hammersmith Odeon. Belew for President!
I set myself the task last year to work through all his albums in order of release. Tomorrow I'll give 'Does Humor Belong in Music' a spin. So glad I got past Thing-Fish/Francesco Zappa/Mothers Of Prevention. Definitely low points for me.
I've been listening to Lumpy Gravy and all the related material on Lumpy Money. Followed by a cruise through Waka/Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo. Getting ready to dive into The Roxy Performances next.
After several days of spinning the Roxy & elsewhere box I felt I needed something different and I'm now listening to does humor belong in music.
Grand Wazoo ...while waiting for Amazon to deliver Crux Of The Biscuit and A Token Of His Extreme (sdtrk). This has basically turned into 70’s Zappa month and I’m loving every minute of it. Cheers
I usually listen to both of them together although I'm currently listening to something else Joe's Garage
Just listened to Lumpy Gravy....the reworked cd, re-recorded bass and drums, 1984 edition...and.... I like it ! I have the mono cd, shortened version from way back....and the '95 stereo cd, BOTH with the originals tracks...but really...like the '84 overdubbed the best. It's ALL because of the sound. The early ones just sound too tinny to me. Very unusual for me to like this sort of thing...especially for such a loved artist of mine. I don't believe I've ever heard the overdubbed We're Only in it for the Money that accompanied LG on the first cd 2fer issue. I might even like that one.
Picked up Tinsel town Rebellion at a local record fair today for £10. It's okish, but went straight into Uncle Meat afterwards
