I’m not a fan either. I find it to sound a bit too cold and uninvolvingly played, though many swear by it. I also don’t like that the horns, so important for this work, don’t really sound that lush. In Kubelik’s studio recording, my favourite for this work, they are absolutely delicious. Plus, I have it on vinyl, and there it bugs me that the side change is halfway through the third movement. Why?

Has anyone listened to the Profil box set of Dinu Lipatti? Are the remasters used any better than on the ICON set? Would this be a good choice now for someone who has none of his recordings? It has 12 CDs so it seems to have quite a bit of his work. https://smile.amazon.com/Dinu-Lipat...e=UTF8&qid=1517610513&sr=1-2&keywords=Lipatti

Gil Shaham Russian National Orchestra Mikhail Pletnev Glazunov: Violin Concerto Kabalevsky: Violin Concerto DG, 1998 Shaham is excellent.
I agree Shaham is excellent and after seeing your post I just ordered this disc. I have his recording of the Sibelius and Tchaikovsky Concertos and it is also very good.
I've been sojourning with a lot of acoustic records lately. Tonight, an oddity: a Fonotipia (US pressing by Columbia) of two arias from Thomas's Mignon sung by Emmy Destinn; one side, with orchestra, plays at about 73 RPM; the other, with piano, plays at 82 RPM. The selections--the Prayer from Act III and the Styrienne from Act II--were not too often recorded, at least compared to the "big hits" from the show, "Connais Tu Le Pays?" and the Polonaise, "Je Suis Titania." Both sung in German. Quite a lovely record, actually; I wish it were in better shape.
RIP Warren Miller. The music is contemporary. Good luck in your search for who the composer is since it does not look like there was a soundtrack released for this one of his films.
I can use Shazam later to see if it can figure it out. I’m on my phone now and can’t do YouTube in the background. I didn’t know he died. That clip sure is a blast from the past. Boy have things changed.
If not mentioned before: RCA Living Stereo - The Remastered Collector's Edition (60 CDs) – jpc RCA Living Stereo - The Remastered Collector's Edition, 70 EUR
Got me to take the leap - it's more like $55 without VAT. Of course the shipping mostly makes up for that, but I picked up a bunch of other discs in the bargain too.
I pre-ordered the 2nd volume of the DG Jochum set from Amazon Germany, as it was the cheapest price at the time. It was supposed to arrive last month but never did. I contacted them and they said they would reship. They did and I got a message it would arrive tomorrow. Today I checked the tracking and it had been returned to them. I checked my order on Amazon.de and it said a refund would be given. But I never received notice of this. It seems an odd way of doing business.
Now enjoying the Fantasie for Piano and Orchestra from the above box. The pianist is Ciccolini. Earlier, I very much enjoyed the Scriabin concerto from the following CD (with big thanks to @Rose River Bear for the recommendation.) And I plan to finish off the night with La Mer from this CD:
Awesome that you like the Scriabin performance. I think I have some of the Debussy Martinon performances on single discs.
No, I love it! I picked up this Brilliant Classics box back when they were reissuing everything under the sun for cheap.
