I know it doesn’t matter, but was just wondering.

  3. That's odd because he was in a number of terrific films including the classic "Say Anything".

He did some very fine acting in that role.

He had parts in a lot of films before Frasier (perhaps after as well).

One I recall was "Suspect" with Dennis Quaid, Cher and Liam Neeson. A somewhat obscure and mediocre film; but also somehow memorable.

John Mahoney was an amazing man. He moved from the UK to the US, served in the US Army, got a Masters degree, taught English, and didn't even get started acting professionally until he was 37 years old. When we all saw him in Frasier, he had already survived a bout with colon cancer. A transplanted Mancunian played the quintessentially American Martin Crane for eleven seasons. A truly remarkable talent. I'm glad that I get to see a little bit of it.

    R.I.P.

John Mahoney as William “Kid” Gleason, manager of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, and John
Cusack as shortstop and third baseman Buck Weaver in the movie Eight Men Out.

  14. All I can find is he died in hospice care in Chicago after a short illness.

Very sad to hear this news this morning as a big fan of John in Frasier. A great situation comedy relies on good casting and they certainly struck gold with 'Marty Crane'. I haven't really seen much of his other work but I will definitely try to see some more. RIP John.

Thank you for finding that out for me. I wasn’t sure if the source you put was true or not, so that’s why I wanted to know.

My favorite was his portrayal of a William Faulkner type character in the Coen Brothers movie Barton Fink

Besides being a terrific actor, the man had a winning smile that made him instantly likable. RIP, John Mahoney.
