Pulled out my original pressings of Sting: Dream Of The Blue Turtles, and Maria Mckee: Maria Mckee,
and was really very pleasantly surprised how good they sounded on my new Rega Planar 3.

I generally play the CDs of these titles, but these really surpassed my expectations.

Both were quiet and tonally rich. A bit of inner groove distortion on Side 2 of Mckee..but not too bad.

I've been heavy into vinyl lately. My XTC Black Sea sounded amazing and was blown away by some Stevie Wonder albums from the 70's.

I just got a sealed original Sade Promise and it too delivered such buttery sound despite early digi-production. Interesting matrix inscriptions too...

Sting's "...Nothing Like The Sun" and Madonna's first album both sound incredible to my ears.

My personal audio "show-off-the-turntable" fave is Tracy Chapman's debut.

I think my R.E.M. and Peter Gabriel records all sound pretty great on vinyl. I have bought multiple 80’s records with songs I know well, like INXS not so long ago, and I am continually impressed with how incredible they sound. Could be I am just comparing them to how they sound in my head from repeated hearings on the radio but it is still fun to revisit songs I know well and hear just how much better they sound on vinyl over a good system versus in my car. It’s a wonderful experience. Have fun!

i have had similar experiences...but around 1987/1988 the quality begins to go into the toilet...they cheapened the pressings knowing CD would be the main format going forward.

Yeah kind of. Meaning I haven't listened to them in a while and forgotten how quiet they sounded then. Listening to them last week reminded me how quiet they are. Definitely pulling out Rio by the weekend.

I’m glad you had a good experience with the Sting one. My copy is very thin sounding.

Let's all recall that by Rio Duran Duran were mega huge and no expense was spared production wise -- you're hearing the sound of money. Hard 80s dollars too, not like today's money!!! :magoo:
