Last time i looked, his wikipedia page hadn't been updated.

Very sad, if this is true. I love the first two PBS albums.

Totally missed this thread. I had just bumped the Pearls Before Swine thread after I saw it floating around on Twitter.

It's a shame, that Drag City reissue of One Nation Underground from last year was a real revelation for me, my first full encounter with his work.

Rapp was an intelligent, gifted songwriter whose legacy lies in so much more than his virtually flawless run of albums. He was also a principled, decent man. A man with a conscience.

Oh man, this was not unexpected, but it still hurts. Very, very sad news today....

Tom Rapp was one of the good guys, both as a musician, and later as a civil rights attorney. Am listening to One Nation Underground right now in memoriam.

RIP, Tom Rapp. You will be missed!

I was only introduced to Tom Rapp`s music around 6 months ago by @lemonade kid of this place(thanks lk). I had heard of Pearls Before Swine but never heard them. I have since managed to picked up about 3 CDs of PBS and solo Tom and only last week managed to get a new vinyl copy of `Use Of Ashes`. The albums of PBS and Tom are hard to come by in the UK.

The music of Tom Rapp is very beautiful and deserving of a larger audience. Although I am a very late comer to Tom`s music I am very sad of the news of Tom`s Daeth. Go well Tom Rapp your music will live forever.

You're welcome....always happy to hear of new Tom Rapp fans.

I recommend his last album, a comeback of sorts, after decades away from the music scene lawyering.

A Journal Of The Plague Year...didn't skip a beat. Wonderful.

Had so hoped he had another in his pocket....maybe we'll see something unreleased.
There is also a live PBS ....Live Pearls (1971), that is quite wonderful.

Pearls before swine: Live pearls (rec 1971)

First, I will describe the scene.... I picked up my first of Tom Rapp's albums ("Stardancer") from a discount bin in England around 1975, and rapidly managed to acquire all the others. I loved them all, especially "The Use of Ashes". For reasons which I still cannot fully explain, his music meant more to me than that made by anyone else. Sadly, I never met him or saw him perform, but I did encounter him - when I first discovered the web circa 1991, immediately searched to found out if he was alive or dead, discovered his email address, messaged him, and immediately got a lovely reply from the man himself. Magical. Time's moved on but I still love all his records. I'm sure his music will live on, as will his glowing character. A sad day, but perhaps his passing brings those of us who loved him and his music closer together. We must touch each other in our blindness...

I am bumping this because some people might have missed the news of his passing ( the relatively few of us who would care ) and the music he made both solo and with Pearls Before Swine deserves recognition.
