Well yeah, but a better mastering job has got to be an improvement over the shrill sounding boot. Even if the original recording is shrill, a better mastering should improve it somewhat.
That’s assuming it’s a better mastering job. Multitracks. I think 4-track, although possibly 8-track.
I looked over all the photos in my file, there is an additional vocal mike on the right side of the kit above the tom tom. And I can also see an over head mic. 5 mics in total. Hopefully the remastering will balance the drum sound.
That was the entire show? Less than half an hour? It's been 26 years! Various - The Monterey International Pop Festival
Thread derailing sidetrack deleted. May have missed a response or two. Helpful advice - If you have no interest in this release, your time is better spent in other threads
Well ,yes, clearly. But you've got to think that it'll be better than what's on the bootleg. Then again, it's The Who.
Listening again to Relax from the boot. I could be wrong, but how much do you think a band like Cream with all the extended onstage jamming influenced The Who? I'm hearing it, esspecially on that number.
We're OT, but many bands did the 'jamming' in Cream's wake, the 'ooo weren't unusual, as you suspect.
Not sure why sone folks feel everyone has or heard the bootleg. I’m a pretty big Who fan from the early days and never heard it. So this possibly interests me.
Unlike a lot of boots this was an official recording, right? So presumably they have a good original source.
It has always been known that these shows were multi-tracked and were a potential release, and since Pridden is recently involved, it's likely a new mix from multi-tracks. Since the bootleg is taken from an acetate, and a lot of (but not all) circulating versions are badly remastered, it should be an upgrade for most people even if they do something to screw it up.
Very welcome news. Pridden's involvement is promising. Pre-Tommy Who often gets the short end, so a live release from the era is a good thing. I'd like to think, with Pete taking a touring sabbatical for at least this year - therefore, no emphasis on "current" Who, such as it is - this might open the door to more proper archival releases. SF 1971? A proper rendering of Philly '73? Who knows whatever else is actually in the vaults - no one else expected the Kilburn footage to see the light of day, after all.
I don't know, haven't they? I have no complaints for any studio/live Who I've heard. Just the Astley frankensteining. I never turned to the Who for an audiophile fix. Even if Astley completely ruined the Leeds deluxe.
I still prefer Live at Leeds Complete to HD download, but the original boot of Fillmore East does have a shrillness that makes it difficult to listen to. When is the release date? I will wait and see....
