Basically I'm looking for authentic stuff with tons of 70's America fetishes - big cars, hairstyles, houses, fashion etc. Not the modern takes with cheesy moustaches but the real thing. Could be small town America, southern states etc. We have plenty of films about 70's NYC and LA but you know what I'm talking about.

Although it was released in the 80's, I'd go for "At Close Range", which is probably Christopher Walken's finest performance. It's based on a true story/true people from the 70's.

Buster and Billie. Southern small town melodrama. Very affecting and heartbreaking.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Great film.

If you’ll settle for the suburbs, The Ice Storm captures the 70’s perfectly. It’s a great, great movie with actor/actresses like Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Christina Ricci, and Joan Allen(especially) at their very best and throws in a young Toby Maguire and Elijah Wood as a bonus. (as a special added attraction, the only time, ever, when Katie Holmes was sexy).

Over The Edge. The film felt mostly realistic when I was a teenager at the time I watched in in 1980. The music/soundtrack was spot-on for the time and subject matter. It is a work of its' time but is strong enough to hold up today.

Norman Lear’s Cold Turkey, filmed on location in Iowa. Pretty funny movie, too.

Two great movies that have the backdrop of the 70s. My favorite decade.
