Dick Van Dyke is returning as the president of the bank. Expected around Christmas, 2018. Anyone have any other details? Does anyone think that this will actually work???

Funny - as soon as I heard this "sequel" would come out, I thought "I'll bet Emily Blunt plays Mary"!

Talk about a hard act to follow.... The original Mary Poppins is practically perfect (see what I did there?) Dick Van Dyke was great as the bank president in the first version, and as Bert of course(the lousy Brit accent notwithstanding.)

Okay, probably no coincidence that the Mary Poppins musical came to Hamburg recently.^^

I wonder if all available copies of the film, Saving Mr. Banks will suddenly and inexplicably disappear...while strange, muted calls of, "Let me out!" emanate from the Disney Vault...? :help:

Seems kind of out of step to do a sequel with a different actress. I would have maybe gone for something like, the kids in the original are all growing old now, and search for Mary to see her one last time, kind of "Eddie and the Cruisers" style. What would they find? Julie Andrews would play the part, of course... and the reveal would be priceless.

They are going to "La La Land" Poppins so much, that my version will seem like an antique. Sometimes "history" should just stay "history", but sadly Hollywood never got the memo!

The original Marry Poppins film was good and no sequel in the franchise will top it in my opinion.

I think the original is a mixed bag. It's become viewed as a classic but I think it's pretty erratic - it can be fun and charming but it can also drag.

Will the "sequel" be better? Probably not. Could it be better? I think so...

Better a sequel than a remake, though.

Plus, when they read new books, we wind up with three Fifty Shades Of Gray movies...

I guess I don't see that. The only immediate thing that comes to mind is the choreographed "Step In Time" sequence. That can be a little tedious, but I'm not one to enjoy watching dancing scenes much. I will say that the movie is pretty lengthy considering it's ostensibly for children, but then...Wizard Of Oz.:agree:

    "Wizard of Oz" isn't a long movie - it's 103 minutes.

    "Mary Poppins" is 139 minutes!

And a lot of that running time is devoted to seemingly endless musical numbers.

Again, "Poppins" is a generally good movie, but it's not one without flaws, IMO:

I hope they don't keep those question marks and exclamation points in the title when the film is released. They look kinda dumb.

Wow, sure seems longer to me, but I love it.
