    Matrix Sampler #5

April 21, 2018 - The Doors Live At The Matrix: Let's Feed Ice Cream To The Rats. Record Store Day LP - master tape expected to be used

Track list to be announced. A person in dialogue with Doors management has stated this will be a 1 LP release — not a complete box set.

    =============================================

For comparison — here are all the tracks as recorded and in chronological sequence based on the photos of master tape boxes. This is what a complete box set would look like if one is ever published.

    MASTER TAPES:

    March 7, 1967 Tape # 1:

    1.) Backdoor Man
2.) My Eyes Have Seen You
    3.) Soul Kitchen
4.-5.) Jam* (Note: James Healey stated this "Jam" is two instrumentals totaling approximately 16 minutes, never before released. They don't even circulate on the bootlegs. It has not yet been revealed what these two songs are. Healey did not recognize them.)
6.) Get Out of My Life Woman
    7.) When The Music's Over
    8.) Close To You
    9.) Crawling King Snake
10.) I Can't See Your Face in My Mind
    11.) People Are Strange
    12.) Alabama Song
    13.) The Crystal Ship
    14.) Twentieth Century Fox
    15.) Moonlight Drive
    16.) Summer's Almost Gone
    17.) Unhappy Girl

    March 7, 1967 Tape # 2

18-19.) Woman is The Devil / Rock Me
    20.) Break On Through
    21.) Light My Fire
    22.) The End

    March 10, 1967 Tape #3

23.) My Eyes Have Seen You
    24.) Soul Kitchen
25.) I Can't See Your Face In My Mind
    26.) People Are Strange
    27.) When The Music's Over
    28.) Money
    29.) Who Do You Love?
    30.) Moonlight Drive
    31.) Summer's Almost Gone
    32.) I'm A King Bee
    33.) Gloria
    34.) Break On Through
    35.) Summertime (instrumental)
    36.) Back Door Man
    37.) Alabama Song

    Fragment: March 9, 1967

38.) The End (survives as a fragment, as Peter Abram recorded the March 10 show over the March 9 show. Only a few minutes of The End survives from March 9, but includes some wild poetic imagery.)

Its really just a few people causing the same problem over and over. I don't see why one can't have a critical discussion of a product, as long as you choose your words carefully. The personal attacks are the real issue, but saying you don't agree with the content of a release shouldn't close the thread.

Am I misunderstanding the 1st Gen note in the info for this RSD?

I agree ... but I am guessing that our host has done work for The Doors and rather not have their management lampooned on his site? Maybe I'm wrong . . . and trust me I'm all for freedom to discuss.

I think you are spot on...the relationship runs long and deep. Our host has done some great work for the band for which I am thankful.

Let's stay on topic here which is a discussion of this new release. Conjecture and potentially libelous remarks concerning the Doors management and moderator's moderation will probably lead to thread closure. again. Thanks.

OK, on topic. This record will be the 5th (FIVE!!) official release that includes an incomplete fragment of the Matrix recordings.

In Michigan, many of us have a long running joke that the Detroit Lions will never win a Super Bowl in our lifetime. Sadly, I'm starting to feel that is also the case for an official release of the complete Matrix recordings.

Okay. Back on topic, as a long time doors fan I am not happy with this new release. I feel we should get a complete release. Hope that isn't a thread closer since it's just my own honest opinion.

It's a single LP sampler with material from two nights. Not complete shows. See here: PRINTABLE Product List-1.docx

Although they once again failed to live up to expectations after all those hit and miss Matrix releases thru the years, I hope its much better sounding than last year's superfluous mastering.

It's bad enough they botched the original release and were apparently misleading about the source of the tapes. Now they refuse to correct the problem, stringing frustrated fans along endlessly with these compromised scrapbook releases. I choose to support bands who deliver quality archival releases without insulting the fans.

Just wondering. If we are talking specifics about a product that's been officially released why would doors management ask to have it closed? We can clearly see this isn't the full matrix shows and people stating that shouldn't cause a thread closure

I believe their release strategy for the Matrix recordings (including this current release, thus keeping on topic) is best represented by the following GIF:

Thanks for asking. Specifics are fine. There were some slanderous remarks that were posted (and removed) that ruined the discussion in that other thread.

I suspect its more a matter of individuals complaining and hitting the report button. Mods are only doing their job.

I recommend ignoring people, I've been doing it my whole life with amazing results.
