I'm a longtime fan of the many great songs of singer/songwriter Randy Goodrum. Here is one that he wrote with Steve Perry of Journey, along with the funny story of how it happened ...

    One more for now ...

For as long as I can remember I was always a half-ass fan of James Taylor. I can't deny the guys talent, but I felt that a little of him goes a fairly long way, for my own musical needs. But then I bought his "One Man Band" live concert CD/DVD and that did it for me. I just can't recommend this live concert DVD enough, as it really is great (and that's coming from a guy who is NOT a huge fan of live concerts!) Here is just one of it's great moments ...

Joe Jackson doesn't seem to be rated in the U.S. , which is a crying shame

There’s a bit more than piano on this, but it’s certainly a piano-based song. It’s also one of EC’s most beautiful and poignant songs.

There's some light rolls on a cymbal and maybe a couple synth flourishes, but otherwise, this is basically a singer, a guest appearance singer, and a piano, and it sounded (and still sounds) great on the radio.

One of the biggest hits of 2013, here's "Stay" by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko.

"Someone Like You" by Adele, which was the very first #1 hit in the Hot 100 era to feature nothing but piano and voice:

Neil Young’s piano performance of “Philadelphia” at the 1993 Oscars was both incredibly vulnerable and powerful. In retrospect, I think Demme’s film—and especially the closing scene featuring that song—helped us take a quantum leap forward as a society. Art can be a great impetus for social change.

Virtually the entire recorded output of Tom Lehrer was piano and voice. I have a modest example here:

OK, one more. Audio is less than perfect, but ... nicey-nice

This is from a great DVD which unfortunately has a terrible hum throughout...

This is the one for me. Tori Amos covered it when I saw her in December.

  21. Written by the under-appreciated Robert Wyatt. Again, not strictly speaking just piano and voice , but mostly piano and a wonderful performance:

Speaking of Tori Amos solo piano covers, she also knocks “Philadelphia” (mentioned above) out of the park. The way she sings “I won’t be ashamed of love” is a goosebumper for me.
