Interesting feature I just noticed on Discogs--it now breaks your collection down by decade of release for sorting (maybe this has always been a feature on the site and I never noticed).

How does yours break down by the decade?

    Mine:

    1970's: 86
2010's (must be counting reissues here--yep, it is): 59
    1980's: 48
    2000's: 37
    1960's: 31
    1990's: 7
    1950's: 2

I don't have exact numbers but I'm very sure the most records I have are from 1960s and 1970s. 1950s, 80s and recent music closely following.

Log in, and from the dashboard screen, go to your collection (second selection in the drop down menu on the upper right of the screen).

It's displayed in a pane on the left side of the collection screen, under 'decades'.

Thanks for the pointers, though I've tried this, with three different browsers, but to avail.

On the collection page, in all three views (large covers, text with covers, text only) I see the following :

(on first line, L to R) Search box, random, manage folders, manage custom fields, change currency, export my collection

(on next line, L to R) Collection value (min, median, max), Sort - drop down, Folder - drop down, Show (25,50, etc), and three view icon options.

(on next line, L to R ) Remove tool, Folder name select, Move tool

    That's it.

Above the collection there are the various sort (Artist, Title, Label, Year, Format, Min, Med, Max, Added, Folder, Ratings, Notes)

No mention of decades anywhere. What browser are you using?

Very weird--I'm using Chrome on a Macbook,

Seems like just this week, the regular view I'm used to seeing on Discogs changed--from smaller, thumbnail sorting of covers in A-Z by artist, to larger renditions of covers (or alternately, even smaller thumbnails), and sorted only by date added. I don't know if I clicked something onscreen to make this change or what.

I took a screenshot to show how I'm now seeing it:

Mine aren't archived on Discogs, but I definitely have the most bunched up between the 50's-80's, with some even going back to the 40's.

There is a very vast (and telling) drop between the number of albums from those decades, and those I own from the 90's through today. In my view, completely understandably.

In fact, curiously enough, I have the fewest albums from the 90's than any other decade. For whatever reason...

Haven't kept count but the 60' s and 70' s are probably my most owned. No surprise there as I can tell.

Here are my numbers, although the re-issues thing really throws it off (the '80s and '90s in particular get boosted because of CD reissues):
    1940's: 2
    1950's: 59
    1960's: 119
    1970's: 209
    1980's: 205
    1990's: 199
    2000's: 107
    2010's: 61

    Grand total: 1,062; 526 CDs, 325 LPs, 135 45s, 70 cassettes, 6 DVDs.

Yes, I have a data base that tracks all this. I've been updating it since 1985. I can't bring myself to stop.

I have lots of 70's albums, but because I only collect CDs, there is nothing in my Discogs collection less than the 80's. Because they didn't have CDs then. I think I could get the info from Zune, but I don't have my latest purchases ripped, so...

    Oh well.

Yes, i don't seen any options either.

I'm on windows 8.1, using chrome. I've tried internet explorer also, but get the same results.

*UPDATE : there is a thread here about it :
Discogs Forum - new collection format ? has this just happened

It only displays when there is less than 2000 items.

Also, there are huge problems and issues for the new look on the collection,
they are trying to fix it, but apparently it loads slower, and has less options.

I use it with text only, since i have a slow connection.

Counting records and some CD's. I do have some CD's not listed in my collection and some records too that I have but I don't place with the others, but this is roughly correct. These are also mainly 7" singles

    1950's - 13
    1960's - 297
    1970's - 132
    1980's - 103
    1990's - 13
    2000's - 9
    2010's - 11

I also have 15 entries that don't have a year in their listing.

Pretty lousy. I haven't got barely anything from the 1920's at all.

Well, I do have one Edison cylinder, but without the label still on it, for all I know it's just a voice memo from Josiah to LouEllen, reminding her to secure a fresh supply of quill pens and inkwells, for the Clabber Girl Baking Soda Corporate retreat.

I was born in 1983... age is important when looking at these kinds of numbers I think.

    1950s: 5 (0%)
    1960s: 116 (3.5%)
    1970s: 399 (10.4%)
    1980s: 625 (19.3%)
    1990s: 1,074 (33.2%)
    2000s: 667 (20.6%)
    2010s: 348 (10.7%)

(I should clarify this is my entire collection, CD, vinyl, SACD, BluRay Audio, hi-res FLAC, etc etc.)
