I love it. Even if Jim wouldn't have wanted the other doors on it, there's no way I'd repeat listen to a solo recording of Jim just reading his poetry aloud alone in the studio. Musically I think they did an amazing job, very unique, (even if the style is a little more 70's than the vintage doors) . I would welcome some sort of collectors edition, especially if we got a 24bit high res release, with extras.

Their misfire was throwing in "Roadhouse Blues" opening it with "Ladies and Gentlemen, from Los Angeles, California, The Doors!" In that moment they made an album that was supposed to be about Jim and his poetry into another pseudo-Doors album . . .

2 CD versions doesn't count as Master Tapes haven't been used for that release (despite the fact that press release says)

Oliver Stone mentions it in the Doors movie commentary track.

I wonder why. It’s not like their daughter’s bad life choices were unknown to interested fans of Jim and the Doors, or really anyone who bothered to read about how she and Jim ended up.

The list is not supposed to indicate the use of the master tape. It is simply meant to show which Matrix song was officially released and as part of which album.

While the straight poetry audio may have limited replay value, some fans have done some really cool musical adaptions of poetry not on AP. I would love to see Jampol throw up a couple poems on creative common sites and see what musician fans do with it.

    Jim Morrison - Silver Forest
    Silver Forest

    Beautiful poem by Jim Morrison
    Beautiful Poem

    The Doors "Under Waterfall"
All 4 Doors on this from 2000, poetry mixed with some of the Miami 1969 stage banter rants.

I think the Courson rule was you couldn't show Pam/Meg Ryan using heroin in the 1991 movie. There's a party scene where Meg is in bed with another guy and it is implied that he is using the drug. Years ago there was a thinking that Pamela's bad habit were indirectly the cause of Jim's demise in Paris.

Is the Jim Morrison Scrapbook hardcover book the only Jim only release done since Jampol took over?

Was thinking? Is thinking! Jim was certainly responsible for his own life, but I think it’s pretty obvious their codependencies were not helpful to each other’s health. That’s what I meant — it was no secret, so why try to hide it?

You really didn't. You said it was a miscommunication, but you didn't say if the miscommunication was about them having the reel or about it being included on the release. Do they have the reel? Please answer that. Thx.

Does anyone know if it will include a code for digital download? Just curious since I didn't pick up last year's release, so I wasn't sure if it was included.

And may very well have been a directive from Elektra because a spoken poetry project with musical accompaniment was probably seen as a bit of a commercial gamble at retail, the more "Doors presence" the better. The Aquarius rehearsal of "Gloria" was slotted as the Doors' song to be included, but IIRC, Corky Courson, rejected it, so after going back to the drawing board, "Roadhouse Blues" was selected.

There was just as much "legal b******t" in 1978. Legalities and permissions by the Courson estate are only part of the entire picture surrounding "An American Prayer" and "HWY."

Frankly, I do not think "An American Prayer" has aged gracefully. Some of the alleged poetry is embarrassing. It would be neat to hear the entire reels of Morrison's recorded poetry in their natural and historically accurate state, but some of it is pretentious to say the least.

An American Prayer is completely underrated. I wish Jim got his wish and released it by himself without the Doors involvement but I find myself listening to this much more than Soft Parade.

Still, not bad for a 26-27 year old guy who was very busy and being pulled in a million other directions. I also hope to hear the unedited sessions one day.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if anyone knew if this year's would have one since there was no digital version of the release, unlike last year's with the 50th Anni TD release.

An American Prayer is a big chunk opposing the release of Jim's untouched poetry sessions. Also, I guess the estate will never give in to release his second poetry session recorded on his last birthday partly because it is not as consistent due to he was drinking that night. With the first one made in '69 already circulating and available everywhere, unfortunately everything points to that direction that it will be kept away for good.

With more focus on Jim solo projects in the near future I believe all of his poetry is in play for release in some form.
