    Ground Rules
    1. Keep all discussion to the song at hand or songsthat have already been discussed so as to not disrupt the flow.
    2. Please explains all thoughts in depth I'd simply because that leads to more fruitful discussion than "This Rocks" or "This Sucks".

IMO apart from the cover art, everything about this album is brilliant. My favourite one from BS.

I think the cover art is iconic and the music is fantastic. A great LP

gregorya I approve of this message

One of their very best in my opinion... I was in junior high school when this came out and our band quickly added some of this to our set list... ;)

First I thought it was a mismatch of record and cover, but looks like it's the French Vertigo, oui monsieur.

Probably my favorite Sabbath album. Certainly the one I listened to as a troubled teen in the late '70s.

    Wheels Of Confusion/The Straightener:

We open this record with the epic Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener, Which kicks off with a mournful Iommi lead, Bill Ward’s drumming beautifully accompianying it, as is Geezer (when you can hear him, he’s fairly muffled in the mix here), and then Iommi throws out another one of his awesome riffs at :21 with Ozzy at :38, and the latter sounds great on here, belt out Geezer’s lyrics to another one of his great vocal melodies, and pinning all three of them is Bill Ward’s awesome unorthodox drumming which is so crucial to the Sabbath sound, and he is incredible on here, but they all. And when Iommi switches it up at 2:26, it’s just as awesome; also worth noting is some of the textures of Mellotron he adds here and there and throughout the album, and it adds a certain atmosphere to the track, very spacey and fairly eerie. This track is constantly switching it up, it constantly keeps me interesting, and then at 5:27, we get The Straightener, which is such an awesome coda, between the duh duh DUH duh on the Mellotron and Iommi ripping it up on guitar, Bill Ward anchoring the track all the way through, excellent s***, and what a way to open the album!

Volume 4 is my favorite Sabbath record with Ozzy. Many hours spent in my room listening to this. It can really get in your head (in a good way).
