    LOL.

Dylan, Springsteen and Radiohead are clearly winning the thread, as they always do with these threads.

It's probably safe to say that they are among the strongest examples of 'polarizing' artists.

They're probably happy to win--look at how many people are aware of them and think about them.

Loudon Wainwright III . . . John Prine . . . even Bob Seger aren't mentioned near as often.

The Kinks. They have probably 20 songs I like and we're good fun the 2x I saw them live, but I don't own any non-comp albums or see then as being as great as th ey are touted as being.

Oh my God, I totally forgot about Tom Waits! This is the one that stumps me perhaps even more than Bob Marley. It's like listening to a carnival. I just don't get it. Thank you for mentioning it.

Some of us have a bunch of albums like this:

So "it's like listening to a carnival" is a bonus point.

My Bloody Valentine. I had Loveless on cassette. Didn't really like it. I finally got to the point where I did appreciate it, but never felt the need to get it on cd or vinyl.

Coldplay, easiest answer I can ever give. Just doesn't do it for me at all.

Try Propeller, I think that one is pretty easy to get into as a whole (although it tails off toward the end).

Ah, well that makes sense. I hate clowns, so...

In fact, one of the reasons why I never loved Sgt. Pepper's was because of songs like "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite". Hell, maybe I just hate carnivals. I should probably avoid the Insane Clown Posse.

Bee Thousand is the stuff. I think it's widely known. I am a fan but I don't delve. I got the Suitcase and I periodically go through it. It's a giant catalog of things that Pollard liked that he did. What could be better than to find out just what's in there? Gradually the tunes filter into my random access memory. He's an american treasure.

I'm not following. Bands that have 20 songs that I like are some of my my favorites.

I agree. two or three good singles...but I could say the same about Foreigner or Styx. Why has Queen always been so hyped?

The soundtrack to Flash Gordon worked, pretentious, overblown, lightweight and perfect, that's it. Philip Glass is the same his music works when when in context out side of the movie no.

Tom Petty. With his influences, similar to mine, and his crack band, I should really dig what he did, but it just leaves me feeling "meh". I'm not sure whether it's his voice or his songs that turn me away.

I am a big, big, Petty fan... but I view him as one of the premiere singles artist of his generation...but not a guy that ever came out with a masterpiece album or two... so I can understand your "meh".

I like them or I would not have seen them twice.

But I read folks saying Ray Davies is the greatest writer in the British invasion, and there is no way his catalog compares for me to Townshend or Jagger/Richards, let alone Lennon/McCartney. Personally, I'm more enthused about Pete Ham.
