I have always been very selective when it comes to big box. I already have most of the recordings in the new Claudio Arrau Complete Philips Recordings box ...

Tests my tolerance for new music! Interesting orchestrations--I'd just like a little more discernable melody.

The recordings themselves are truly first late. But as I have not hear this set, I can’t speak of the mastering.

Now on the turntable, record 2 from "Bach - The Well-Tempered Clavier I" performed by Daniel Chorzempa playing harpsichord/clavichord/organ on Philips.

I don't believe he's been here. He had some wonderful posts on QuadraphonicQuad and the defunct (but still viewable) sa-cd.net forums.

The CD version of WTC Books 1 & 2 are OOP and used copies are quite pricey ...

Listening to my tapes made from library CDs is like opening a time capsule containing late 80s & early 90s recordings, many which I have not come across since & most of which are pretty good. The sound on this one is a bit too reverberant, but it's still enjoyable.[IMG]

Rudolf Kempe and the Staatskapelle Dresden play Strauss opera

The CD should be dirt cheap. But it is one of the very best performance of the opera and the sound is phenomenal. (Do stay away from the remasters.)

My tape just credits Rampal, but I believe this is the CD.[IMG]

In some cases I can't find an image of the CD the tape must have been made from. In this case it's Haydn's String Quartets Op. 77 Nos. 1 & 2, which I believe were his last SQs. Played by the Takacs Quartet, a late-80s Decca recording.

Many thanks  I would love to buy this especially with Grosso Mogul but I am a vinyl fetishist ...
It's disappointing that Ms Podger is never released on vinyl - I will write to the record label and see if they have any plans to rectify this! :agree:

I'm trying to find a better appreciation of Beethoven so am sampling the Emperor on spoti with Mr Kempff on the keys ...

No lack of tension here from soloist or orchestra but I think I am more in a state of 'appreciation' than sheer enjoyment right now ...
