Excellent, your room could now fill with the wonderful sound of a Philharmonic Orchestra.

A Qwest edition of Technique arrived today (phew) so looking forward to having a listen later when / if time permits.

I'm not expecting any differences. But for collection reasons it'll be nice to have.
Glad your Qwest arrived safely :)

Later US manufactures of Discovery (CMU/Later IFPI's) added the EQ
Secret Messages, the only manufacture I've come across that has the added EQ is the 1990 Japan CSCS

Btw the US CD I have of 'A New World Record' is a bit too fast.

The US 80's CD I have sounds a bit fast and has bloated mids as well. I compared the speed on 'Tightrope' to a 90's Japan 'A New World Record' I have and also 'Tightrope' on the Flashback box and the US one runs to fast and that's just from listening. I remember Steve Hoffman commented on that 80' CD and he also said the midrange was bloated.

I’d suggest avoiding vague terms like “the added EQ” because it’s really unclear whether it refers to pre-emphasis or de-emphasis.

Has anyone actually confirmed this has PE? It’s hard to believe, since the first PolyGram-made CD doesn't have it (which I did just confirm).

I think I now have the same or variant of (Blue Faced 01% matrix) as the disc has ‘made in U.K.’ under ‘CDID 12 Stereo’,
the de-emph values you posted now match this disc and EAC v1.3 flags also, which the EMI Swindon did not.

Ah my mistake, here are the values for the Blue Face with ‘Made in U.K’ (though probably German)

Always wondered why A&M sounded a poor relation to Organisation now it is clear why, for me this could also have implications for ‘Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’ also.

    Thanks.
I don't think any S/T has PE, it was released on compact disc at a way later date.
Interesting on that Swindon. Does it sound as if the EQ is corrected? I have a later US EMI JAX with the EQ added, but the DR is way lower.

Can any of you guys verify Billy Joel-The Stranger as having PE
Going only by the DR database there are an awful lot of DR-15's and a 35DP 2 submitted here and at the database.

For "The Stranger," two 35DP matrix masterings exist:

    1. gold face with pre-emphasis
    2. aluminum without pre-emphasis

This extends to 35DP matrix CSR Japan for US pressings, varying on a stamper code basis. I have both masterings in CSR Japan for US. The second mastering also carries over to DADC.

Thanks appreciated AJ , it look likes quite a few US manufactured discs ended up carrying pre-emphasis. Mine without pre that carries #2 is a pre ifpi 050002, obviously a re-issue, but I see a later 98 with pre listed as well BC 074646938423
My BC is 0-7464-34987-2, carries the carried over artwork 'manufactured in Japan'

For everyone's perusal, I just uploaded "The Stranger" 35DP mastering with pre-emphasis to the DR Database:

Album details - Dynamic Range Database

Any other pressings with pre-emphasis will share the same raw peak and RMS levels. If not, no pre-emphasis. And I do not believe that any US pressings do.

A third digital mastering, the second without pre-emphasis, from the mid 1980s also exists. It appeared on some Denon Japan for US overflow pressings, CMU P pressings, probably others, too.

No, it is legit -- it is the second of the two 35DP matrix masterings, the one without pre-emphasis. See again my original reply:
