Do you clean new vinyl before first playback?

Most of the time I clean new vinyl records I've bought with my Knosti before first playback.

The ones that are in paper inner sleeves I always clean before playback.

 

Yes, because if I have the record cleaner out anyway (and I usually have it out at least once a week), I might as well.

 

Yes I do, and then into a mofi sleeve unless it comes with an equivalent.

Yes. Every time I clean a batch of new records using my Okki Nokki I empty the contents of the vacuum tank into a bowl. It's always amazing to me the junk that comes of new vinyl. The records might look clean but there's junk in those grooves.

Spin-Clean sometimes, Vacuumed, ultrasonic cleaned for 10--15 minutes, milti anti static gun.

After the cleaning each vinyl will get its own mofi anti static record sleeve.

Than the inevitable spin.

 

I do an anti-static cleaning followed by a quick wet cleaning with Mofi brush.

 

I do not, due to the simple fact I don´t have a record cleaning machine.
Thinking about buying a Spin Clean or maybe spending some more and getting a vacuum cleaner like the Okki Nokki, but haven't made my decision yet.

 

A no for me. I don't think I've ever cleaned a record, new or used!

Of course, I don't own or play any records that are so visibly dirty or dusty to the extent that I would be horrified to drop a needle on it.

How do people here handle cleaning new records as they come in if their cleaner is a Spin Clean? Seems not worth it unless you have a bunch to do at once.

If I have one new record, I may just hit it 3 or 4 times with a carbon fiber brush to get rid of dust and static before playing. Then I will spin clean it when I have a few records to clean.

 

I do the same with my Nitty Gritty and MoFi sleeves. It removes the release compound and keeps the stylus clean.

 

A bucket of hot soapy water and a wire brush before it goes anywhere near my Crosley

 

Yes, due to the amount of times I've bought new vinyl and all of the dust from the paper sleeves have been stuck to it.

 

Between new and used, I buy somewhere between one and six LPs in an average week, more if I'm in a crate-digging mood. The fluid lasts 5-6 days before the flocculant and surfactant start to break down, so it's not a problem to wait a few days until enough things have come in.

They claim you can do 50 records per basin or some number like that, but I never do more than a couple dozen.

 

If it's dusty, a carbon fiber brush. It it's not, no.

 

Yes, I remember seeing a film of a CD factory it was like a lab. staff in white coats with plastic head gear. Then I saw a photo of a vinyl factory with people smoking, and eating while placing my special purchase into sleeves.

 

No. But I might clean it after the first play, if I decide it could use it.

And I'm always amazed about the gunk that comes off a brand new, sealed record.
