As wonderful as 'Nothing Can Stop Us Now', is , it has very little in common with Soft Machines recorded output with Robert Wyatt except in terms of consummate musicianship and creativity.
Dig the Soft Machine for sure. I particularly like 3/4/5, but should really venture beyond them. As stated by others, there is plenty more to discover in their catalog. It's fantastic that many of their albums have recently been reissued by Music on Vinyl, so that these great albums are readily available again in LP format. That hopefully will mean more exposure for this terriffically interesting band.
No, it's Ivor Cutler doing the Scottish-eccentric and generally being himself. His own material is worth checking out,in a benignly weird yet normal way, John Peel was a fan. ....ahem, sorry, as you were, back to the Soft Machine!
I'm a big fan of the Soft Machine. They were an amazing band. Check out my Chronology: The Soft Machine-A Chronology
I bought this set and Bundles and Sodts separate.they sound amazing on my system except for 3 which is not a great sounding album
All time favourite band. I own #1 thru #7. Bundles and Softs are on my wantlist. Never cared too much about nos. 1 & 2. Love 3,4,5 and Bundles. Played 4 thru 7 to death. My GF saw SM live back in the days, whereas I missed them somehow. She loves 6 and 7.
What? Nobody's deemed it necessary to bring up The Beatles connection here? I must inadvertently have strayed on some strange forum...
I bought their first album on vinyl with the spinning cover when it was released and I like it but for some reason I never pursued their music beyond that album.
Does anyone have the Switzerland 1974 CD/DVD set? There is a closed thread on it on here where one poster states that the video quality on the DVD is awful, this is in my local record shop & I'd like to buy it but at £20 I would like to garner some opinions on the footage first.
