    I just took my 14-year-old daughter to the Art Institute in Chicago for her first time. Absolutely wonderful. She was amazed at how many paintings she knew. She said that seeing the actual brush strokes and globs of paint freaked her out a bit. Very lucky to have that at arm's length.

    I still don't think illustration gets much credit with critics. Personally I love it, especially Howard Pyle and his students like N.C. Wyeth.

    I could put several of Balthus's paintings of paintings in here but in the aftermath of the Metropolitan controversy surrounding Thérèse Dreaming (1938) it seems that many of the images online are being blocked from copying.
