Liked the first episode, the second one not so much.
The only real resemblance to the original show are the names.
I’ll watch anything with Molly Parker so we’ll keep going

Did anyone else catch the original Will Robinson Billy Mumy's cameo in the first episode?

    No, where?
The guy Parker Posey took the jacket from?

Yes, the "real" Dr Z Smith.

    Ahh, good guess.
Picked him because he was the only one that I could recall

I'm a little curious as to why they chose a black actress to play Judy Robinson? Is she supposed to be adopted or has Maureen been fooling around? ;)

  7. Yep. I'd like the rest of the cast that are surviving to appear in some capacity as well. I thought it was a nice bit of irony.

  8. Maureen had a daughter before she met John and, because she has the same last name, i'm assuming he adopted her.

    Dr. Pepper What, me worry?

Since she is quite a bit older than the other two, I was guessing that she was from a previous relationship or marriage. Also her stressed relationship with the father (stepfather?) makes more sense that way. Maybe it's an homage to the Brady Bunch Judy, Judy, Judy!

I would figure since this happens in the future that race is no longer an issue and she just happens to be Maureen’s daughter from a previous marriage.

Is that confirmed or speculation? I'm only 2 episodes in.

  12. There's a throw away bit of dialog in the fourth or fifth episode where it alludes to Maureen having Judy before meeting John. The rest you can surmise.

Not read through the thread yet but...

    ... Dullest pilot episode ever.

Terrible audio mix for the dialogue too.

One episode, somewhat boring, plus too many flash backs. Its a cheap way to give us the backstory.

I know that say, compared to the original series or Star Trek, the effects are much better, but it still looks pretty fake too me. In this way its true to the original.

  15. I’m half way in and enjoying it so far. Definitely some plot holes and not crazy about the flashbacks but it’s worth viewing for me. From the neck down, The Robot reminds me of the one in Saturn 3.

I was just watching it thinking "any kid under 14 is going to be bored senseless by this!"

I agree, and I've just seen all of it. This really is just a soapy melodrama, the type you'd see on CW. It's kind of like Terra Nova crossed with A Series of Unfortunate Events set on planet Vancouver where the characters are contractually obligated to go, or nearly go over cliffs in every episode.

Ironically, the very last episode was probably the best.

As for the characters, I thought both John and Maureen were very good in their roles. Judy was pretty terrible - the actor was way too young for the role and simply didn't have the acting chops to pull it off. Will was good (if not as charismatic as his young counterpart - Bill Mumy). But out of all the Robinson kids, I liked Penny most of all. She was so much fun - sassy, cute and very funny. Don West was fine too, but too much of a Han Solo clone. The biggest disappointment was Parker Posey's Dr Smith. The character was flat, boring and unconvincing in motivation.

    Overall, pretty soapy and uninspiring.

Did anyone catch that Parker Posey's Dr. Smith real last name is Harris?

I noticed that her characters real name is June Harris and wondered if that was a tribute to JUNE Lockhart and Johnathan HARRIS.

One thing this remake has in common with the original series: I'm
