Think it's been established that if you don't especially like a band, you think they made the same album over and over again.

How about Tom Petty (with or without the Heartbreakers)?

I think a GORT needs to change the title of this thread to "Bands I never took the time to really listen closely to, so I think all of their music sounds the same based on my uninformed opinion". That's what it's devolved into. The Clash? Wilco? The Smiths? Laughable. You can't really have listened to their music in earnest if you think they made the same album over and over. Either that or people are mistaking the fact of a band developing a signature sound with a band making the same album over and over.
You want an example of a band making the same album over and over? As it's already been said, AC/DC take the crown.

Not really true at all. Later in the seventies they incorporated funk, disco and reggae into their sound which wasn't present in the early seventies.

Not to mention that the guy pretty much responsible for writing and laying down the music for "Casbah" wasn't even in the band at the time they cut their debut with "I'm So Bored ..." on it.

To my ears, most of the hugely successful AOR bands of the late 70s.

for better or for worse at least Kiss went all out with Ezrin a couple of times, and Unmasked certainly sounds nothing like RNRO etc.

If Some bands have a certain sound, a certain karakter profile which You can directly recognize them For.
Than that is not The same thing as making The same album over And over again.
So many bands have a own profile But make different sort of albums.

Maroon Five is getting very tired sounding. The last four albums sound the same. Hate the new one.
