I think you mean Nimbus. The UK PDO is respondible for bronzed discs.

That’s probably right. In any event, those first press UK CD’s are very nice but you should check the discs to make sure that the surface (label) side is not tacky to the touch.

Which one has the lack of punch? The UK?
How do the UK and US cd's compare to the PCM hi-def DVD stereo?

Slightly off topic since Norm stopped at Technique, but I adore Republic and gave that a spin over the weekend.

I've compared Republic US original (in waterproof orange floatation device with waterproof insert) to the standard US.
Sorry to say but the US waterproof versioin beats it out of the water. No idea if the peak levels are the same.

I remember seeing that for $30 back in the day and couldn't justify it for the goofy packaging.

Had there been a bonus track or two...... No comment! :D

Yeah, understood. And you really need the water resistant Sports Discman to hear it correctly while listening in a heated pool.

I'm serious. It really does sound best that way.

Better in my opinion. But I think you know by now i'm not a fan of modern compression
The two channel PCM is upsampled. Cut-off at 22.

Do all Euro's use the Sonopress German mastering?
That I'm not sure George. My comparison was with the US and German posted a page back

Sorry, just reread your prior post. Looks like it's the German that lacks punch and is more laid back. Good to know!

The original Low-Life CD, pressed in Japan for UK, was mastered with "pre-emphasis" so it can sound very thin and bright on certain CD players.

    That I don't have!
Would love to see the DR for it to see if it matches anything.
Those above are Japan for UK (PE SUB), Australia Disctronics (PE TOC), US Qwest and a later Canadian Cinram

    Which ones sound best?

No best FTR, just favorites for personal taste. :)
I haven't come across a 'warm' EQ of this album yet, even the UK DMM has some brightness to it, but for punch the Canadian has a more forward aggressive approach to it. More air to breathe, soundstage.
I'm wondering if Canada had access to the tapes. Emile Lepine did the mastering/cutting for the Polygram Canada lp's, these may be sourced from his work. My PC&L Emile LP is excellent so I tracked down the 8 track CD, hopefully have it next week.

Yeah, I remember hearing a few complaints at school about the sound of Low-life compared to PC&L having less "body." That's the way it was recorded. Same thing happened with The Smith's Meat Is Murder vs. S/T.

13 Regret (Sabres Fast 'n' Throb Mix) 12:17

the only other place i found them was on a french promo cd-single:

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but it's still better than opening up a new one. I've been wondering, but are all the CY NO discs the same as the Factory/Londons? I've been interested in picking up a 33CY-1143 Brotherhood but would like to know if it's indeed a different (and hopefully, better) mastering than the Factory or London issues. Can someone post some peak values maybe?

    I don't have it Saltman, so I can't say if it's EQ'd differently or not or if it's just a level-shift-

Mmmh the values here do seem to suggest a different mastering. I would be interested in knowing this mostly because the London disc is available for like... 5€ at my local CD shop. And while the 33CY is way more attractive it's the sound that really matters. What about LowLife?
