    By building up to it?

The Time Machine eventually got to the Eloi/Morlock bit, but it took a while. Do you need the whole movie in that setting?

The concept needed to be fleshed out more. More than the two dimensional average guy among a bunch of dumb people. There needed to be more nuance.

I always get a kick out of the digital clocktower flashing 12:00.

Has some memorable scenes but it's not a well made movie by any means and I couldn't even get through it when I tried to watch recently. I don't find it all that prophetic because we had been in a state of cultural decline for decades prior to it being made.

Yeah. And this was when Studios still advertised movie times in the local paper....and they didn't even bother to put the ads in the paper for the movie.
It was as if the studio was contractually obligated to put it in theaters.
It was in theaters for a week in LA.
Would love to know the back story behind the fiulm

The first part of the movie is excellent...the last part is not nearly as good. And that's because Fox cut off his funding and told Judge to wrap it up because they lost faith in him and the movie. So the end was finished hurriedly.

An interview about that movie with that interviewer?

There is not enough irony in the entire universe.

The only theater in Chicago that we saw listed was the Lowes 600 on Michigan Ave, and we were alone in the theater except for one other guy.

I wondered if there were genetic freak smart people hiding their smartness for fear of being wedgied to death, who built the things like the medical scanner.

Well, Jones does rank up there with the world's biggest idiots, so perhaps there was a meta reason for Judge granting hime an interview.

I saw it a while back. At the time I thought the posh couple at the beginning were eerily similar to a colleague of mine (and his wife) ie. high IQ individuals well into their 30s saying they didn't have enough money to have kids when they had more money than most people!

You're right about that. The second half is a little half-baked and I did read that was the reason. But even with the weaker second half, the film is still quite remarkable.

In many ways, like King of the Hill, Mike Judge's "political message", if you can call it that, is subtle and I have known persons of differing political beliefs appreciating both Idiocracy and King of the Hill. Which is a rare accomplishment in this time of hyper-divisiveness.

^^^ Mike Judge can write comedy that laughs at the foibles of his own "side"; that's a big reason why he's better than most.

This is one of those polarizing love or hate films. I used to watch movies like this or The Naked Gun with dates but soon came to realize that most women just do not find these types of movies funny and won't laugh even once.
