    Lol at The decoy springs!!

    At least a Crosley is
    -cheaper
    -already assembled
-not made of the box it's shipped in.

This is a good laugh thank you.

109$ + shipping and you get 5.64g of tracking force, which is about 0.0517 g/$ ratio. Now, looking at the SL-1200G we have 4,000$ and you get only 1.5g of tracking force (assuming you buy a modern cartridge and don't swap in the one that came with the Spinbox). It's easy to see that the 1200G has a less favorable ratio of 0.00037 g/$ and is also missing the classy canvas plinth.

The previously reviewed RokBlok still looks to be a bit better

Wow, that SpinBox is yet another piece of junk that no sane person can defend, nor spin this as anything remotely good. I can't say I agree with Techmoan's views about the infamous Audio Technica LP60 player, however.

I'm somewhat tempted to see if my Soundesign is still in my parents' basement and do a comparison between it and the low end modern players. But then I can also think of a quintahexecimal number of more enjoyable things to do.

Wow. That's just sad. I'd rather spend the money on this vintage turntable even if the cartridge is kinda tired ;)

Interesting junk. I enjoyed all 21 minutes but I'd never have this even if it was free. After watching I visited the Crosley site and they have two players that are quite pricey one of which is the C20 for $559. C20 Two Speed Manual Turntable Deck | Crosley Radio
I assume this is one of the models made by Pro-ject. Even then I don't think I could buy something with rh Crosley name.

Its basically a Debut III from what Ive seen. Nothing wrong with owning one if youre a beginner. But of course Id rather just have a real ProJect.

What’s infamous about it? Just curious, as I recently saw Steve Guttenberg say it’s not bad for the price. Thanks.

It's very prone to skipping during certain music passages in the grooves, very inconsistent build and quality control, no way to replace the cartridge, higher degree of inner groove distortion due to its conical stylus and bad tonearm, higher degree of tracking force (usually higher than 3.5 grams), poorer sound quality, speed problems, high wow and flutter, etc.

And Michael Fremer -- the same guy who claims that a Crosley will "chew up the grooves" in just five plays -- says the AT-LP60 is OK and will take care of your records (at 10:24 in the video):

I actually think its good for the price as well, if we are talking about ignoring vintage options completely.
Its got lots of drawbacks of course, like lack of upgradability for the cartridge, except for very limited options. Heavy VTF, closer to 5grams on some models, that you cant change, very easily at least. No anti skating etc. Not sure about the speeds but I think its decent since Ive heard no complaints about it.

It obviusly wont sound amazing, especially with that built in pre amp. But for like 80$, not bad for someone trying out the waters in the vinyl world. I always say there is no bad product, just a bad price.

All the ones I've seen measured correctly have been within a few tenths of a gram of the factory spec of 3.5 g.

And as demonstrated in the video above, it does have anti-skating.

Ah yeah, meant no CHANGEABLE Anti Skating, my bad.

Ill see if I can find the video. I remember one owner measuring 4.7 grams on his digital scale.

Found it! I think he mentions it in the video somewhere but otherwise he wrote in the description that his was 4.7 grams. I guess its just some inconsistency in build quality.

Since the tracking force is fixed there is no need to change the anti-skating either -- just like on P-Mount turntables.

The "cheap turntables" video linked above discusses and demonstrates that its spring-balanced tonearm needs to be measured at the same height as the playing surface of a record, or else you'll get an inaccurately high reading.

Measured wrong -- scale on top of platter:

Measured correctly -- scale at same height as playing surface of record:
