So about a month ago shipping for one CD or DVD using standard shipping in the US the cost was $3.98. Then a week later they raised the rate to $4.98 and then last week they raised it again now to $5.99. I don't buy a ton of CD's so I don't want to join prime. I think that Amazon knows they have a monopoly so they raised there shipping rates. Any thoughts?

Prime has so many perks that it is well worth purchasing IMO.

They raised the Price of Prime membership too. In my experience now, Prime shipping may be a tiny bit cheaper, but the shipping time is far slower, both from fulfillment to transit. As their selection and dominance of the market has grown, their service and speed have declined. Their plus is competitive or cheaper pricing. I think that’s their last benefit.

Agreed. With several distribution centers all around me, same day delivery is available, not to mention the Prime Music I've accumulated, plus the Prime Video, where I can watch a Charles Bronson film, without buying the Blu ray, plus more I don't personally use, but may in the future.

Free shipping on most items is 25.00 so why not wait and buy enough to take advantage of that. No prime account needed.

I found that when I did that I started buying this I didn't really need to meet the quota.

the only thing good about Amazon Prime was watching original Star Trek episodes without the awful new special effects.

  11. Prime ! It pays if you order regularly and watch their good video streaming service

  13. Exactly.

And $3.99 still seems to be the norm for 2nd party sellers

The thing is that I don't order regularly at all as I've really slowed down buying CD's BluRays etc. So if I want one CD that's $9.99 then I have to pay $6.00 in shipping.

Are you saying that you use Prime for free two-day shipping but it's actually slower than that? Every time I order something that's supposed to come in two days, it comes in two days. If they're not meeting that guarantee for you, that's a cause for complaint, though it doesn't appear to be widespread.

  19. I get it. You need to crunch the numbers and do what works for you .

Music items aren’t a big part of my amazon buying these days aside for box sets because of their easy return exchange policies.

I’m self employed and work at home so I odfer lots of other items and then their are holiday gifts to family out of state and clients.

I also use their Amazon Fresh in Seattle for some grocery items (Whole food now too). All that shipping would cost me much more.

And I do enjoy their Prime TV. Great original shows

They've been using their own delivery service for a couple of years, at least where I live. It seems random though as to when they use it.

  21. Being in Seattle if I order items over $35 frequent they’d sometimes be here the same day with Prime

Right, they do. But what's coming is different.

Amazon to launch delivery service that competes with FedEx, UPS

I think they actually hire local delivery services that "pose" as Amazon delivery. But that aren't owned by Amazon. I know they do this in Seattle.

If you call them about a late delivery they will usually extend your Prime membership for a month.
