All the tipoffs yesterday indicated that today was the day, so I woke up early, got out of bad, don't use or even own a comb so didn't drag one across my head, got on my computer and ORDERED!
I'm in for the box but the vinyl will be a pass. The aren't really any good sides like Cornell and it looks like an expanded Steal Your Face. Sorry for the negativity, please understand that I am trying to convince myself to stay away as I'm a bit of a completist with Dead vinyl.
Same here - got the email at 1:16 pm, noticed it on my phone at 2:15 pm, went right on Dead.net and placed my order for the 19 disc box. Still deciding if I should order the show they are releasing on vinyl (but I believe the vinyl is not a Dead.net exclusive - so I can get a retail if need be). - Actually ordered the vinyl as per a link earlier in this thread to amazon.co.uk at a great price!!
Actually, and just diggging into this now, but the first show 6/22/73 has the SBD source as a Betty Board according to the Taper's Compendium.
Thanks for that - LP set ordered at current exchange rate, $83.00 shipped to the USA (assuming that by Sept exchange rates don't get weird).
Sources according to Taper's Compendium, realizing the age of this dusty tome: 6/22/73: Betty Board, 10" reel, half-track at 7.5, sound A+ 6/24/73: SBD, incomplete, cuts, sound C 6/26/73: No SBD listed, AUD only 5/17/74: SBD source listed via GDH only, sound A 5/19/74: SBD, MR, sound A 5/21/74: SBD, MR, via GDH only, sound A So maybe these were part of a returned BB stash?
Yeah, figured with shipping back to here it'd be about the same. Plus, having that shipped via AMZ that distance scares me, they don;t ship vinyl very well in my experience.
Did you guys remove VAT before calculating. Remember items shipped to the US don't have VAT. If you take the price of 70+ pounds without removing VAT, you get $94.00. When I placed my order the price of the vinyl dropped to 59.07 pounds (once VAT was removed), and with basic shipping, the entire order is 62.15 pounds. Convert that and you get roughly $83.00 shipped (at current exchange rates).
I just used a straight currency conversion, which I'd assume adds no VAT, just using exchange rate data. But damn, if true that's a helluva deal.
I ordered the original Cornell vinyl box pressing via Amazon.co.uk, and it came packaged great and came unscathed. In fact, YMMV, but I order a lot of stuff from Amazon.co.uk that can't easily be purchased stateside (or is much less expensive from amazon.co.uk) and I have never had a single problem with shipping. Sometimes it takes a few weeks, but gets to me in great shape. Color me lucky (knock on Wood. LOL).
This is gonna be cool! I'm a little confused because I went o place my order AND IT WENT THROUGH PERFECTLY! WITHOUT A GLITCH! WHAT IS GOING ON!
I must give them a try, thanks for the inside info. Every LP I've ordered from AMZUS has come packaged as cheaply as possible, just simple thin fold-over "sleeves" with no additional protection. I've had to exchange way too high a percentage so just stopped altogether. Edit: So the prices listed on UK include VAT?
According to Dave's video it will be in a traditional First Nations bentbox such as this example: So that would explain the shipping costs (maybe?)
Alas, my wallet can only afford the 3-disc version, but it looks like they cherry picked some nice highlights for that collection (incl. the epic PITB). If only they had put the Dark Star on there (maybe in place of one of the versions of Truckin'??), it would have been a perfect release for me!
