I'm not sure about that. The media landscape has changed and become even more concentrated since the Comcast merger, which should work against approval (if we're playing on a level playing field).

As the story points out, it's the attitude about vertical mergers that might be shifting.

We are the ones paying for these billion dollar mergers.

I can't see what the possible benefits to consumers will be. AT&T will need to raise its rates to pay for the merger, which will make it much easier for other ISPs to raise their rates as well. Higher rates for HBO and CNN and all the other Time Warner legacy networks are to be expected, again to pay for the merger.

I wonder if AT&T will try to buy Dish next? Hmm...

DirecTV tried to buy Dish back in 2002 but the government nixed the deal. At this point, however, I'd have to say anything is possible.

Not listening to anyone except my own informed knowledge and experience - big business is not bad - it is not altruistic either

Just another sign we've reached the age of vertical integration and corporate synergy.

    Sorry, are.

I just had a toilet thought. (TRIGGER ALERT!) This merger might actually be a good thing for net neutrality. Think about it; would you want two ''legal'' monopolies fighting each other or other ISP's over content access?

Higher prices, less options = consumers lose. This shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

Gee, I seem to remember AT&T being broken up as a monopoly once before....

Time Warner spun off their ISP. Spectrum is that company.

Time Warner only has content, which will now be owned by AT&T.

That was pretty much a different world, and there's no doubt that The Bells were behaving obviously as a monopoly against their customer's interests. Net Neutrality was one legislative attempt to prevent this abuse again, but that may have collapsed.
