Not every song was designed to be a classic. No need to take it so seriously.

  5. Besides, what's risqué about the lyrics of WDWDIITR in the first place? Of course we are quite advised to assume the "it" is about having sex - if a rock song about having sex, by 1968, would be anything to write home about anyway - but it could well be anything else too... acting foolish while no one is watching, or whatever...

Off-color, risqué jokes have existed since the beginning of time. Musicians in particular are known for ad-libbing songs like this as part of rehearsal warm-ups. What cosmic force do you think would have prevented the Beatles from writing this song, or a song like it, prior to 1967? It is a simple blues progression with two lines of lyrics.

Thread title is "How many Beatles on this track"?

    My answer: One too many.

This is infantile piffle, AFAIC... makes "Love Me Do" sound like Mozart.

I'd love to see a legitimate source where John says he was hurt not to play on it.

I can't imagine anyone who would have wanted to join Paul on it (and I can't imagine that Ringo is on the track, the drumming sounds just like the rudimentary drumming on the "Bowl and Cherries" album).

I remember a poster from roundabout then, that had "additional lyrics" e.g. "Why did they do it in the road? Nobody was watching them..."

    It ended messily...

I remember John saying it - it was Paul saying he felt pleased having done something "like John" on his own, expecting John to be flattered or something. He may have been, a bit. But...

Great track. One of Paul’s best vocals. Haters gonna hate.

One of my least favorite Beatles tracks. But it's both Paul and Ringo

Road is filler. I don't hate it, but I've heard it enough. I made my own White Album cd, and it didn't make the cut.

I have no problems with this song and Paul's delivery.
It is one where he does not sound testicularly challenged. (LOL)

Better than Rocky Racoon, Honey Pie, Wild Honey Pie. Even "Can You Take Me Back" is better than those. Not Pauls worst or even close.

    Ringo on drums.

I'd love an official release, even a download, of this.

Simple 12-bar blues progressions and simple lyrics, a lot like "Birthday" and "Yer Blues.". Part of the White Album was getting back to their basic rock'n'roll roots, part of it was eclectic all-over-the-map genre-bending, and then it had its experimental side. All of it goes together to make the White Album what it is.

  20. "Avant Garde is French for bull****" - John Lennon

Mark Lewisohn's The Beatles Recording Sessions says it's Ringo on the drums.

My mother hated this song; she said "The Beatles are better than that". I couldn't disagree.

Love this track. I just wish John had been on it, too.

Agreed. It was good enough and raw/raunchy enough for John to wish he'd been included on it. For all of the Lennonistas and McCartney haters, that alone should make them hold it in higher esteem.

  24. I love this song. I have to wonder if it inspired John when it came time to do POB. there are as I recall
you forgot Wild Honey Pie. Seriously, I like it.

Supposedly it’s Paul and Ringo but it sounds like all Paul to me.

  25. John doesn’t name this song but talks about the ones Paul did alone in general. Considering he did My Mummy’s Dead, I think he probably liked this.
