I listened to Listen Like Thieves and Kick the other night and was surprised at how fresh they still sound.
Keith Richards in 1988 called INXS a band "I am very much interested in."
It's a tough choice for me.....probably Welcome to Wherever You Are....not as over-exposed.

I love Listen Like Thieves but it's hard to arguee that kick is not rock/pop/dance perfection.

Reluctantly voted for Kick, because it's such a perfect powerhouse. But I have more affection for Listen Like Thieves.

When Joshua Tree came out, I thought U2 were trying to make their own Listen Like Thieves. And then INXS went in a completely different direction with Kick.

The Swing . Full of great songs and in my opinion faultless. This is the record that
made them the #1 band in Australia.

Hard to argue against Kick objectively, but musically and artistically, my favorite INXS album is Welcome To Wherever You Are.

And then 5 years later, INXS tried to make their own Achtung Baby. :sigh:

That entire Shabooh-Kick period was a whole lotta great music. Kick probably is their peak, but I still think The Swing is my favorite.

for me shabooh shoobah and the swing are the two most essential inxs albums .... listen like thieves just misses out by a hair

I agree. When I first got "Kick" in 1987 I was so disappointed. To my ears, it was MTV sell-out music. Super trendy and a major turn-off for me.

    Their best song!

kick had some good songs ... but i just prefer those albums ... i suppose being an Aussie i'm a bit surprised that kick is getting the votes ... i may be wrong but i reckon an all aussie poll would be one of the first three. i think we think of kick as a great album, but a made for america album ... idk, maybe some aussies will correct me there?

Do you mean the first three INXS albums, or the first three in the poll?

first three in the poll. ... now you have said that though i do know a lot of folks that prefer the early albums ... but i still think the first three in the poll would get the aussie vote

i reckon it would be hard for someone outside oz to realise how big the swing was in oz

Kick. A couple of singles aside, don’t care much for the rest. That album was fantastic , it doesn’t stop thrilling from start to end

I know it’s generally not considered one of their best, but I love Elegantly Wasted.

I'd call all of these albums "wonderful" except X, which is kind of a "sophomore slump" after Kick. It has some good songs but is overall kind of weak. "Don't Change" remains their best song for me, and it's hard to deny the hits of Kick, but The Swing is the first album of theirs that I listened to repeatedly ("Melting In The Sun" and "I Send A Message" are just sooo good), and Listen Like Thieves is probably my favorite. I felt Welcome To... was a fantastic return to form, particularly "Not Enough Time" and "Heaven Sent" and "Taste It."

On Kick every song was excellent almost like a greatest hits album, it was that good !

If you like kick, you owe to yourself to buy the new 45rpm Abbey Rd Studio's reissue. It is off the charts sound quality wise.
