Honestly I don't think Let it Be can even put up a good contest against Sometime in New York City and Press To Play.

It's all subjective. For me, Ram and ATMP are more enjoyable listens than With The Beatles, and Yellow Submarine.

Much as I like the DF sessions, none of them took place in 1979...

Edit: and I LOVE the solo stuff. Likely listen to it far more than the group recordings (fatigue). But I don’t know that any solo lp beats a group lp, for me at least. As others have mentioned, some may be close, but that’s about it, IMO.

nah I don't see it...maybe if we count the orchestral stuff on yellow submarine....then POB. but otherwise. no. theyre the beatles. even coasting or on their last legs lennon/McCartney made the magic (with a little help from George)

Anyone saying none are better is like saying every Beatles album is one of the best pop/rock albums ever which not all of them are.
However, it's widely recognized that Lennon's Plastic Ono Band,
McCartney's Band On The Run and
Harrison's All Things Must Pass are three of the better albums of all time of any genre.
All three were critical darlings among release and 45 to 48 years later all three still are.

My bad, I don't know why I thought I read that somewhere.
Maybe some of the early drafts of the songs were 79?

Ha! According the George those 1 percenter's are the ones drowning "in the material word". Can't say I buy into the whole "hope to get out of this place y the LORD SRI KRSNA'S GRACE" or anything like that, but at this point in my life I do see a bit more sophistication/wisdom in this work both lyrical and musically than many of the Beatles albums.
Let's see, not that each of these doesn't have songs better than the worst of LITMW but as a whole, I put it above WTB, AHDN, BFS, Help, RS, YS, and MMT. Is that considered half or more? I'm also a sucker for some slide guitar so that may be swaying me as well :)

I like them better than any pre-Rubber Soul album.

Personally, I rank these solo records above Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Days Night and Yellow Submarine:

    Plastic Ono Band
    All Things Must Pass
    Ram
    Band on the Run
    Ringo
    Walls & Bridges

Agreed, All Things Must Pass doesn’t have enough variety to warrant a 3 disc set. There are a few uptempo, uplifting songs, but there are way too many somber mid-tempo ballad type tracks. I like some of them individually, but as an album it’s way too samey.

If the question were which albums are better than a Beatles album, my list would start and end with my avatar.

  16. Well certainly different. I hate “better than”styled stuff. It’s all subjective

I was thinking the same thing.

Also, I think MMT is weak as an album. I think BOTR is stronger as an album, but I still would not take it over MMT.

And I’m not a Beatles Rule type of guy...but they do.

And that’s a no from me.

But it’s your opinion, of course.

Plastic Ono Band is better than all Beatles albums but perhaps 3 or 4. None of the others come close, although Band On the Run is a damn fine album and so are many of their solo albums.

OK, hang on my friend let’s go there. Give four that are better, and then let me ponder about number five.

BOTR is better than several Beatles albums.

Let It Be and Yellow Submarine for sure.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

not even one...IMO, Solo Beatles paled against the greatness of them as a group...don't get me wrong I know many love and appreciate them I respect that...for me I enjoyed the debut albums of each best...especially George...

Better is a bad choice of words, but that choice was made by the OP. My avatar is my favorite album. The rest of my favorite 20 are by The Beatles (including many US ones - Yesterday & Today is my #2 LP - as well as all the UK ones).

Doubt any Beatles solo album would make my top 50.
