I would recognize a Beatles difference over a Stones especially for the Stones later years. I have no problem with these discussions about them as I learn too.
I didn't and don't plan on purchasing this set, nor am I a particular fan of different mixes. I do, however, find it interesting if they did include the wrong mixes for a few songs. I'm a scholar, but not for that reason.
Forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere but did Abbey Road actually half speed master Exile again, specifically for this box? That seems to be the case, but why? Is their new half speed Exile any different, better. worse than the one they did only last year? Seems strange that they did this, given that the first half speed was not seriously flawed in any way, at least I didn’t think so.
Yes! Miles was given free reign this time and access to flat transfers of the material, instead of the 2010 remasters.
Got mine in Oz from Collector's Choice - several hundred oz dollars cheaper than the local price! I'm impressed with the depth and clarity and that they stayed true to the original sound profile of each title. However I'm not impressed with the quality of the pressing for Sticky Fingers which has audible scratches, scuffs and elliptical marks - really disappointing. And of course this set is for the US and has no download. Anyway this is a great set and invigorates interest in the later albums. I would interested to hear if others have any pressing issues.
I have the box and have been very happy thus far but have a question. Last song on Side two of Goats Head Soup, “Star Star” or “Starf*cker” depending on your preference. Has LOADS of distortion and sibilance. I’ve not had any other pressings of it. Is that inherent in the original recording or a fault of this pressing? It’s bad. Thanks in advance and apologies if that is a well know issue and I’m just an idiot.
Clean your needle, it's got gunk on it. Isopropyl alcohol on a question tip, spin it around make sure your anti skating isn't too high and try again. Oh, and clean the record. Beave
That isn’t the issue. I use an onzow on my needle and clean it before each lp. Feel like it’s very clean.
I also believe the cartridge is alingned properly. Looking for people that have the box set that have listened to the track and can comment. Thanks for the other ideas though.
But you'd think that they would be jazzed to a different mix!! But nooooooooooooooo. Complaining. Unreal. Beave
Makes it even more collectable! C'mon, an alternate take! Most album's with those are highly collectable. Beave
Oops sorry then. Try this, dial back your anti skating to zero and see how it sounds. You might just have a defective copy. If you want to send it to me I'll put it on my tt and let you know how it sounds......but you have to send it with the rest of the album's....... Beave
I actually think the old half speed sounds more like the Artisan first pressing. This new one seems like a different animal on my system. My only quibble with it is that record one, side 2 has a weird sort of rumble not present on side 1. It’s only noticeable in between tracks. Cannot figure out if it’s a pressing defect or what. Very strange. But the mastering itself sounds quite nice to these ears.
Seems Amazon is fully in stock now. Two day shipping will get to you on Tuesday. But, my order still says Thursday. They even upgraded my shipping to one day because I sent an email on Friday. I don't understand.
