I found it uninvolving, with a flat soundstage.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but lacking any information on how long it was tested and how it was tested I find it necessary to give little weight to such. Furthermore, with anyone's subjective opinion, I really need to see many of their posts to get an idea of what their biases are. Among those owning expensive gear there is often a strong bias against anything inexpensive.

    The D30 tests well:

However, the CD4398 chip it is based on is likely to be rejected out of hand by many audiophiles even though it is used in a lot of pro audio gear.

I really like my Topping D20 -- competes well against my LM 502 CA

Testing is one thing. listening is another. Besides, I take nothing of value from that guy's opinions.

Lots of reports I've seen about the Topping sound matching UncleFred's take.

And overwhelming sentiment on the web of big issues with those "scientific reviews".

Are you referring to the DAC or the Amp? Or both in combination?

To be fair, there are also many comments on the net praising the D30's performance, especially given its price.

I only have the D50 DAC and I'm pretty impressed by its sound quality. There's a member here who owns the D30 and seems to be very pleased with it as well.

I had it, the DAC, in my main system, but the DAC in my Marantz CDP sounded better. Also a Cirrus Logic DAC chip. But at the price it's probably more intended for desk top usage. I know a lot of people like it.

    Ok, I was just curious.

The DAC in my CD Receiver sounds a little bit better than my D50 too, but it's a pretty subtle difference. And unlike the D50 it only goes up to 24/96 and doesn't support DSD. And I paid 3500 Euros for the receiver back in the day, so you might expect a high quality DAC in it. I was pretty impressed how this 250 Euros DAC could stand up to it.
